Hello,

I am trying to rotate the tensioner to releive tension from the drivebelt to replace the belt. For the life of me, I cannot get this little screw to move. I have tried liquid wrench to loosen it, but it will not budge. I have tryed to turn it so hard (using 3/4in rachet) that I have seen the whole tensioner body move a little bit to the right while the screw stays put.

The little gold screw below is the screw I am trying to unscrew. (With 3/4in rachet seems to fit.) Am I working on the right piece? If so, any suggestions how to get this little sucker out? It seems to have gotten me :owned:

The car is a 2001 V6

Thank you for any help,

The tensioner is spring-loaded, and it's supposed to be moved without unbolting anything. Stick a 1/2 drive ratchet in the square hole on the bracket and lever it counter-clockwise. It's a strong spring in there, so you'll need to use either a cheater pipe or a torque wrench to get enough leverage.

I think that gold bolt is reverse-threaded. It's not supposed to be removed unless you're replacing the pulley, and normally the tensioner is replaced as an assembly.
