tune up problem

i just did a tune up today. (94 gt) plugs,wires and cap. after i was done, i cranked it up and it was running on 7 cylinders. i checked the wires and sure they were tight and in the right. gapped at 0.45. im not sure but i believe i put the wires in the wrong spot on the dist. cap. i think its the firing order thats not in the right place. can anbody post a firing oder diagram.

P.S. im new to the mustang world.

1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8, counter clockwise there should be a one labeled on the cap.

Oh, 0.45" for a plug gap aint gonna cut it. 0.045" is better. That's the same gap I use (I go a little smaller than spec to allow for gap erosion).

ok bad news. i did what the firing order says. the car is turning but not firing. i dont want to try and cross wires causing any damage. im not sure if its the cap itself. i dont have a timing light (stolen). i want to get this car on the road soon. i need help.

Check for spark.

It should be trying to catch even if down a few cylinders. Be really sure plug wire 1 is correctly referenced.

problem fixed. plugs were in different places. like #2 was in the #7 spot. somehow the firing order i was going by wasnt the correct 1. i believe it was for the early models. also to note that plugs are supposed to be at .54 gap. i accidently put in .45 which is the 3.8 V6 gap

Glad to hear you got it.

Add a zero to those plug gaps. 0.054" is the median stock gap.

Actually, the Ford manual I have says the 3.8 V6 is also gapped at 0.054. I used that gap with my 94 V6 the whole time I had it. The point is, stock gap is 0.054.

update

ok the problem wasnt really fixed as i thought it was. i put in a new rotor and checked the timing. also i cleaned the MAF as well. its turning over but its misfiring. its sounds like it s running on 7 cylinders. 1 of my friends came to inspect and he said that it sounds like a vaccum leak and perhaps the fuel filter is clogged by not letting out the proper fuel. i dont want to take it to a mechanic and spend $$$$$. where do i start ?

I had the damn same problem when i first got my mustang.

Might be the coil. replace it $45 MSD,
Might be the module $45 NAPA,
Might be the distributor $150 Remanufatured,
MAY BE you still got the wiring WRONG. Motorcraft Stock cap has #1 spark plug wire location on the cap.

You gapped the spark plug way too high using 99 cent gap CHECKER.

Use correct feeler tool and re gap. Fuel filter don't cause this.

The diagram hissin gave you is the correct one for 5.0.

check your fuel pump relay.

Do all these.

true. the gapper i use cost me .99 cents. like i said, its gapped at 0.054, new cap and rotor, wires are 8mm. the fuel pump relay so far is good. i can hear it when im about to crank. im going to change out the fuel filter and recheck for any vaccum leaks leading to evaporater canister.

maybe the order is still wrong .the firing order is different from the earlier model 5.0. but which order should i try out ?

i thought they were the same at first
