Hello,

I was wondering what timing recommedations anyone has for the following mods:

93 LX 5.0, 120k, auto trans and the following mods...
-Vortect V-1 Supercharger, 9lb pulley
-Power Pipe
-BBK Catback exhaust - No CATS - Flo Pro Mufflers
-65mm T/B and 80mm Mass air with 38lb injectors
-A/C delete
-Edlebrock perf. RPM II upper and lower intake (ported)
-Aluminum D/S
-Cobra underdrive w/p pulley
-200 amp alt.
-MSD blaster coil
-255lph Fuel pump/FMU

I heard that locking out the timing at 17 degrees would be good, but I am not sure. What does "locking out" the timing do? Is it beneficial? Any sugg. would be much appreciated!!

Do not listen to whoever told you to lock the timing at 17*. That means making it so the distributor does not advance the timing. You set the timing at 17*, and that's where it stays all the time. That's nowhere near enough total timing. I wouldn't put it at much more than 10 or 12 base.

Your best option would be throwing that FMU in the garbage and getting a good dyno tune. A good tuner will be able to dial in the timing curve through the chip to make the best power and still be safe.
