Unbelievable! This is probably one of the sharpest setups I've seen using a single turbo, looks sick man But where did the coolant reservoir tank disappear to?

Thanks

The coolant reservoir is the shiny little thing right in front of the turbo intake piping. It's tiny.

The big Ford plastic coolant reservoir is gone, replaced with that small bottle.

What's that setup costing you? I just bought my brother's 2000 GT and am thinking about it soon.

Very very nice custom setup...looks great and puts down some respectable numbers for what you have done

Too much The motor and turbo have definitely set me back more than the car's worth. Then you add up all the little pieces, hardware, electronics, fuel, transmission, etc. It gets expensive quick and it never seems to end.

It's nice having a custom kit done in town though. If i have any problems it's no big deal to stop in and get the thing fixed or looked at. No worries about him going out of business or some of the shady dealings that seem so prevalent with mustang turbo kits.

If you really want to go turbo, there are some amazing kits out though, and for a lot less than i paid

Hellion seems to be making some power for a reasonable price, while keeping people happy. The Turbo Forums.com is a great place to check out, if you decide to go that route.

I was a little disappointed with the numbers at first, but for only 15lbs of boost i guess i can't complain. It'll help when we get back on the dyno and work on the tune a little more. A little more power and some better driveability will go a long way, i think.

I'm sure the option to run some race gas and up the boost will help as well

Your power looks to me is being lost in the exhaust...smashed pipes (even ones designed that way) are power killers on a turbo car. Cats are power killers....and ALL chambered mufflers are power killers. Basically if you were to straighten all of your exhaust out, you should be able to look straight through it....turbos hate back pressure.

I had a custom turbo setup myself on my old 04GT. Twin T-61s...did alot of research into it all. Me and my dad built the setup from scratch....you can search my name and my threads and find some pics and info if you like.

Anyways good luck with your sick ride and keep us all updated with the progress

As long as weather holds out i'll be out at the pavilions this saturday (the 24th). Hoping to be around 4-5ish, depending on what time we can get everyone together for the drive up there.

I doubt i'm losing much power in the exhaust. The stock manifolds have proven to make some decent power. I'm sure they are a bit restrictive, and i'd like to test them against some decent shorties some day, i can't imagine i'm losing much, especially at this power level.

After the stock manifolds everthing is custom. Running a true twin scroll system with plenty of pipe diameter to the turbo. After that it's a 4" downpipe into a 3.5" oval pipe. That oval pipe then splits into my 2.5" magnapack catback. The catback should be enough, with straight through mufflers. 3" would be ideal, but 2.5" should be good enough. Also, there are no cats on this setup.

While the 3.5" oval pipe is definitely more restrictive than a round pipe of the same diameter it shouldn't be much of an issue. If you look at the picture of the underside of my car you'll notice an exhaust dump. It's connected to a 60mm Tial Wastegate set to open at 2lbs of boost. Exhaust backpressure should be a non-issue.

All in all, i think i'm losing power in the tune and the fuel i'm running. Pump gas here in phoenix is pretty bad.

The tune is also quite rich and missing a degree or 2 of timing and at least 500rpm. The motor had about 100 miles on it for this tune. I think once we go back with some miles on the motor we should come back with some good numbers.

I don't think we'll make 600+, but that's fine for me. Traction on the street is questionable anyway. And i'll have a nice 750rwhp race gas tune to play with when i want to anyway.

Anyways, i'll definitely be posting here with the results of the new tune and any other developments.

I surely hope so. Manley rates the h-beam rods at 700 flywheel hp. There are definitely people who have made more, though.

I did talk to my engine builder who said that they've made over 800 at the wheels with the h-beams. It's a bit of a gamble either way. The manufacturer doesn't spec them for this kind of power and i'm on the edge of what the builder says they've made.

I doubt i'll have a problem (hopefully anyway), but some a little buffer would be nice.

Don't worry if you don't have ARP 2000 bolts, places like MMR and others have them as option even up to their 900 shortblock.

well that's wht i didnt worry about it. i am never going that high. as it is i'll need a new converter and tranny. axles and locker. all that stuff to handle 800+hp is just too much for me. i have spent a fortune and i reall want to start spending on wood working soon. who really puts down 1000hp in a street car anyway. most guys cant put down the 400rwhp they have now.

Car is back at the shop getting some small issues taken care of. Few small oil leaks, some cleanup, bad oil pressure gauge, etc. Boost controller is also getting installed. Should be back on the road in another week or two. After that it's back to the dyno and hopefully some videos.

I'll definitely keep this post updated

Got the car back from the turbo builders. We fixed most of the minor issues and took care of the stuff that wasn't finished before the dyno appointment last time.

Going to get the rear end work done, hopefully, next week. Final tune, for both pump and race gas, should be done the week after that. Looking for 600rwhp at 16lbs on 91 and 700-800rwhp on race gas with however much boost it takes :biglaugh:

Only making 556rwhp on the wastegate with a 1 bar spring at the moment. It's running quite rich, dipping down to 10.5:1), and missing some timing and rpm for the break in tune.

Very clean and professional setup. I like how you mounted the gauges and the boost controller. The custom radiator piping just shows how much detail the installer put into your car, kudos.

imo you should look into trying to hinge the center console so it flips back, a little custom but I think it would be unique (as if your car isnt unique enough) and look better.

Finally got the rear end work and tune done.

Car made 587rwhp and 526rwtq. Here's the only graph i've got. It's absolutely impossible to get any information from the tuner. They were supposed to get me the dyno files and info on injector and pump duty cycles last week and i still haven't received any of it.

The car is running on 91 pump gas and is apparently running out of injector (60lb/hr). We weren't able to get a race gas tune because of it. They're telling me to step up to an injector driver and some 95's

I'm also not sure why they only ran to ~6200rpm. The car is still making some power and the motor should handle 7000rpm.

why did they use STD correction when SAE is 'the' standard? it inflated the numbers bit.

i certainly wont stand for my dyno guy to withhold info. he doesnt but i would risk not knowing myself where things are.
