I bought the stage 2 turbo kit from here(66mm turbo):
http://www.turbochargedpower.com/94-95%20Mustang.htm

I only have 15k for the whole build.

engine wise, what motor should I buy to handle this??

The turbo kit was $5000 so that leaves 10k for the rest of the build.
-1000 for built rearend(moser 31 sline axles installed)
-2000 for built transmission or tremmec tranny w/ clutch
-500 for dyno tune

That leaves me roughly $6.5k for the engine.

Will just forged internals and low compression pistons do the trick?? Where should I buy this complete shortblock??

I am having Houston Performance do the motor install and tune. They might get me a deal on a motor that can handle the boost. My friend said he was quoted 3600 for a built motor w/ forged internals for his 03 mustang gt, which included ported intake manifold. I think that was with the stock block though. Will the stock block handle the power if the internals are forged and has low compression pistons????

THANKS!

I can't wait for this build to be finished.

What I am looking for is anywhere in the 500rwhp ballpark and be reliable

if you wanna be real bullit proof, you should go dart, BUT it will be close to make a complete motor with good forged bottom end, stroked? h/c/i/ for that amount...

dont bother putting forged internals in a stock block. Do it right, or be cheap and buy 13 explorer motors for the 6.5k and and engine crane!

always budget about 25% more than you think you need.

as for the engine, i guess you could build up a badass dart shortblock and throw your stock top end on it for now.

buy a good fuel system now, then save for a quality top end.

that 03 gt has a wayyyy diff engine than we do and yes his block will handle it.

I thought about that, but I would rather just build my mustang, since everything will be new(motor, tranny, rearend)..

Everyone knows terminators are fast... I want something nobody knows is fast until they hear it spool

It's kinda hard to do wrong with CHP. I'd be looking for an all forged 331 with an aftermarket block and low compression. I don't know if that run you more than what you have left or not.

Those aftermarket blocks are pretty darn expensive ...

If you went to a 351, then a stock block would be strong enough and you might have a better chance of staying on budget. I think my 410 would have come in under $6000 if i hadn't gone all out with the machine work and March pulleys and all new polished accessories.

how much would a built dart block run me installed???

I could just pick up the topend kit later

Even without the topend, but with a built bottom and low compression pistons I can still meet my goals right??

wow... I might go that route, but I thought it would be cheaper to just get a built 302 or 331..

I don't need h/c/i right now. I can go a while without them. I just want to get the needed first(bottom end, tranny, and rearend)

just cram the boost in there till ya do

don't forget about that fuel system. cartech makes some nice kits, and any quality engine builder can give you a quote on the dart block as options will change the price.

haha.. sounds like a plan!

I can always pick up some gt40 heads and a cobra manifold later.

I really wanted to get a built bottom end, gt40 heads w/ cobra manifold, and a custom cam for my turbo setup.

Where is a site that sells a dart shortblock for a good price???

the turbo kit comes with 42# injectors, walbro 255lbh fuel pump, and 76mm MAF calibrated for injectors.. and I already have a 70mm TB

I also have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator

And Houston Performance is going to dyno tune the car after everything is installed.

The stock block cant handle 500hp?

at that power level and that amount of $$$ in a dart combo i would not trust that fuel setup---hence the cartech fuel system reference.

the stock block can handle 500rwhp---as for how long depends on alot of diff things as well as a bit of luck.

just curious how long its gonna take for you to get your kit?

it's all in the tune, but i'm sure you know that 500 at the wheels is closer to 600 at the crank. i wouldn't feel comfortable with it. and bimmertech is right, the fuel system will probably not be up to the task

They told me my kit would be ready in about 3 months. I am not in a rush since I still need my engine built, rearend, and tranny.

How much do built dark shortblocks run? I need an idea of what I am looking at. I might just hold off on the built rearend and run street tires

seriously man, you just need to call the engine builder of your choice and see what they say. its hard to say, and the prices you see on websites are generic that might not fit the bill.

i would say bare min your looking at $4k for a dart short block.

Yeah I will...

I should have enough for the whole build with a dart shortblock. They might get me a good deal since I will be going to them for my whole build.

I can't wait for the whole build to be finished so I can tear up the pavement. I think I will get rid of my 3.73's and go with 3.27's. Better on gas (haha.. just the thought) and better on DD

Damn. I wish I had $15k to put into my 'Stang.

I like how you are building the driveline BEFORE the powerplant. Good plan. Seriously. Maybe you should do all that stuff with your current engine in place. Then put the parts that you need together, as you can find good deals. It's a long shot (and tricky) but you may find somebody that has a good condition long block with the parts that you need. You're really going to need to get lucky with that, though.

I think you might burn your budget on the engine, if you want new parts. You are going to be hard-pressed to buy a longblock that will fit the bill. You'll have $2500 in a block. $2000 in the recip. assy. (If you use Scat stuff.) The other $2000 MIGHT cover heads and some machine work. (Balancing, double checking all the critical measurements of the block/crank/rods/pistons.) I'm sure that it can be done, though.

What are you going to do for brakes? Allow another $1000 for Cobra brakes.

Good luck.
