Turbo Upgrade

Ok, I'm just fantasizing here, so bear with me. I have a complete 2.3T motor and IHI Turbo from an 88 TurboCoupe on an engine stand in the garage. I am probably going to rebuild it to "slightly better" than stock specs before putting it in the Mustang. So here's my question: What would a reliable and proven upgrade to the IHI turbo be? I know it is a T3 from the earlier TurboCoupes/SVOs, but what about about a T3/T4 hybrid? Also what trim would you suggest? Realistically, I'm looking to get about 275-300 RWHP from this running about 20psi. I already have a gillis boost valve waiting for when the engine goes in. Any suggetsions? I have to admit that I'm completely lost when looking at the .57, .60, .63 a/r, etc.

Gotta throw the BS flags here. Sure, a hybrid is (generally) more efficient, unfortunately it works both ways though. Putting a hybrid on an engine that doesn't make enough power to use the extra airflow will kill the hybrid's efficiency. There is no way in hell just throwing a hybrid on a midly modded 2.3 will gain 60hp.

I had a basically stock SVO with a T3..swapped on a Hybrid and it didn't get any faster...basically stayed the same speed. Once I threw on some more parts (header, FMIC, ported crap, etc.) it started to get to the point where it could "use" the hybrid.

I would have to agree here even though I'm to poor to aford a T3/T4 :( I would think you would do some porting on the head before you starting on better Turbos :shrug:
 
on THESE motors? I'm sure you know it takes some modifications to take advantage of a T3/T4 hybrid, sure stinger, if your in the 14's still you may not agree with me. With an attitude like that, I'd rather not deal with you as far as customer support on your headers.
 
Both of you are right, efficiency is the name of the game...but were talking the efficiency of both the motor and the turbo. Utializing flow on both intake and exhuast sides is just as important a proper spec'd turbo. You can see this as evidence on turboford all the time, people throw on t3/t4 hybrid on an engine with little to no serious mods and put down ~215-230rwhp. Which as stinger pointed out, is well within the efficiency range of a stock T3 turbo (even within grasp of an IHI). You are both right...just at two differnt angles of the picture. Jade, stinger is a stand up guy when it comes to Parts, i have yet to hear any negative feedback even after some problems with turbos awhile back. So either he takes care of his customers or he kills the negative ones ;)

I didnt see any attitude here, but hey what do i know :D .

Throwing a BIG turbo at a stock motor is like throwing a set of AFR 205s on a stock 5.0. Sure they will flow like all hell but nothing else on the motor would flow in the same range.

A good intercooler, some porting and a good tune would be a much larger increase in power than a hybrid. Once the above mods have been done throw the hybrid on and watch out.

Like i said start small and simple and work your way into it. The results will be much more rewarding.
