TwEECer/PMS question.

When using the Anderson PMS to make a tune, will the EEC keep the tune even though the pms is unhooked?

Same question goes with the TwEECer.


In other words, can either of the two change the computer settings and be unhooked and the EEC keep the settings in memory?

The PMS needs to stay hooked up for the tuning to work. If you remove it, you go back to stock eec.

Think i am gonna buy one or the other but was wondering about the computer being able to hold the information even with the tweecer unhooked from the computer.

As I understand it, the TwEECer is also a piggyback - you need to have it hooked up to keep from reverting back to stock.

i think both have to be hooked up at all times.
you can go with mega squirt. its $250 for the kit or $450 assembled. you program it with your pc and it stays in the car all the time but the pc doesnt.

A friend and i where going to split the cost of either a tweecer or pms. That way its cheaper on both of us and can still tune our cars.

But obviously that idea wont work if the tweecer or pms HAS to stay in the car for the eec to keep the tune.

Thats what i wanted to be able to do.

That is a nice idea. But were it true, people would tune their car and pass around the TwEECers like fruitcakes at Christmas. It is too bad a TwEECer and laptop cant be used to burn some sort of chip that peeps can then leave in the car.

I know they can take a tune from a chip and put it on the twEECer if you order new from the company, so maybe they can go in the opposite direction.

Actually you can. I read on the Tweecer forums that a guy was doing just that. I think he was able to do it for less than $1000, including the Tweecer. $1000 for the equiptment to do it...

WhiteHorse - that is pretty interesting. Guys would be able to crank out generic chips for peeps - something close to the cobra file for 94-95's (my particular interest in the TwEECers). Hmmmmmmm. Thanks for sharing that.

An PC driven eprom burner can be had for $200. Eproms are less than $20. Download the code from your Tweecer into your PC and you have a bin file that you can burn to an Eprom.

The current prom is soldered into the ECU board, but that only takes about 15 minutes to remove neatly if you repair PC boards on a regular basis. A nice new ZIF socket soldered in place of the old prom and you are ready for the new prom. Pop your Tweecer complield programed Eprom and you are ready to re-install the EEC and run.

Remember that I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. If I understand you, a guy with an Eprom burner and some spare eproms could DL a known, good file (which are on the internet and in tuning sites. Seems to me that this is how guys get the files into their TwEECers in the first place) and then burn it and sell it to guys who dont have TwEECers? Then a guy who doesnt have a TwEECer (like me) could have an upgraded file in his stock computer.

I aint real bright but that seems pretty nice (a lot of 94-95's are plagued with too much timing and too little fuel at part throttle - the cobra tune does not have this issue, hence why it is used so often). This would not be as good as a personalized tune (like a personalized tuner-chip or using a TwEECer to fine tune a given combo and then burning the chip) but it sounds like it could be VERY economical for a non-TwEECer owner (especially if a bud already has a Eprom burner) to just get a bit better stock tune. It could almost be analogous to guys who do the PIH conversion (a real PITA and kind of a step backwards) just to get rid of the crappy stock tune. This would retain the better SN95 processor and be cheaper. Say it ain't so Joe. You are the man!
