Two questions on seats and the top

Hey guys (new here, don't jump me too badly if I seem a bit naive), I have a quick question.
I have a '93 LX 'vert with the white leather sport seats and out here in the Arizona sun these seats have suffered quite a bit (it wasn't just the sun, day to day wear and tear got to them too). I was looking at the DIY upholstery kits that various websites sell, but 600 some odd dollars is a bit pricey for me (I'm still in highschool and I've got a get the grades get money agreement with my parents and we all know people are hurting for cash nowadays). So I started looking for alternatives. I found on eBay a set of white and black racing style seats. For 309 shipped I am going to call them a good deal (however I will be checking a few local places first to see if I can get a better deal on the same seats). My driver's seat needs new foam for the top part and all three seats need to be totally recovered (except for the head rests). I really like the idea of keeping the stock seats, but I'll be looking at almost a grand to repair all three. I didn't know if any of you know how comfortable these seats may be, if they can work with stock seatbelts, or how easy to install they are.

Onto my second question. When I bought my car two months ago, the previous owner wanted to show me that the top worked. On the way down he blew the rear glass out. Fearing that I may break the new glass, I have not put the top down. Are there any things I can check to see that the top is properly aligned so that the glass won't break?

One thing you will learn as time goes by is that "you get what you pay for" is a very real thing. Those seats are cheap for a reason. I'd suggest that you either save your $$ until you can afford to have your seats recovered properly, or find a set of used seats to swap in.

BTW, the first issue of Fox Mustang Magazine has the first part of a two-part article on doing the upholstery yourself. Good stuff.

Don't buy cheap racing seats. They are cheap for a reason. Honestly, you could probably find a set of oem leather 99-03 seats in Oxford white for $300 that would look much better and be more comfortable.

Quality racing seats will cost $1k or in the ballpark of that and fit like a glove.

Plus, now this is my opinion, racing seats don't look good in stockish convertibles.

I have a triple white 93 convertible that I've had for years. When the white leather got too shabby to keep looking good, I shopped around for a while for new ones, looked at the eBay crap, thought about getting them recovered and then came across a set of gray 500-mile 03 GT seats for $350. Since most of the rest of the interior is gray, I decided to go for it. I had the rear recovered to match.

You could get a nice set of later year Mustang seats pretty easily. Check the salvage yards local to you, that way you don't have to deal with shipping. Any seat up to 2004 is a direct bolt in, so just keep that in mind and you have a wide range of years you can look for.
