I never did one. May attempt my first one tomorrow. Any advice, tips or know how? Is this something I should have done, if I have never done one?

You gotta start somewhere. First thing! Put reference marks on the DS to note the relative position of it to the pinion flange, and mark each section of DS before removing the U-joints (so it all goes back in just the way you took it out). This is for imbalance issues.

I recommend trying a ball joint press - it's a big C-clamp and should work well on the joints. You can also use a C-clamp (I bend them doing joints) or a swinging press and sockets (or a vice if you have the DS out of the car).

A search or other peoples' posts will cover the rest.

Are you using greasable U-joints?

Good luck.

I asked because there is a strong and weak side on a U-joint with a Zerk fitting.

Sounds like you dont have a Zerk though (since it's lifetime greased). Cool and good luck.

sorry to hijack, but does anyone know a part number for the u-joints that go into the FRPP aluminum driveshaft? I'm pretty sure that they are not the same as the stock ones...

I cant remember but if you go to a site that sells the DS, it will tell you in the description of the DS (1350's is sticking in my mind).

Good luck.

I recommend taking the driveshaft out yourself, and then taking it to a shop to have them swapped out. Shouldn't cost much, and should only take them 10 minutes. Some driveshafts are very balance sensitive, and you can land up needing to get the whole damn thing balanced if you get frustrated and damage it.

Normally i'd say just buy an aluminum driveshaft, but in the last few years the price has went up like a $100.

trust me bro, I have every intention of taking it out myself, I'm not paying some schmuck $50 just to remove and reinstall the DS...and even though I've changed them before, I really don't want to screw anything up. And it's also easier, now that I make a little more money, I can afford to be lazy about some things.

at any rate, I just can't remember the size/type it takes, and HISSIN, the 1350 is the alloy of steel they use for the joints, that's what's described in the advert, so that's why it sounds familiar.

I did go through the FRPP catalog, but couldn't find anything that specifically said these u-joints fit this driveshaft...oh well thanks anyway guys!
