UFC 83

IDK about that. I think they are on pretty even field when it comes to that.

Really? you probably know more than I do about that kind of stuff. I just remember seeing hughes laughing at GSP and being a complete dick .

I must say Serra took the loss like a man and gave GSP the props he deserves. I suppose there's not much of an option when you get beaten at your own game that badly.

I think GSP is about the best wrestler in the UFC right now. He may not have a BJJ blackbelt, but he doesn't need one. He has the nice luxury of being able to train with Canada's olympic wrestling team.

I take it you didn't see the last Tuff with Hughes and Serra coaching. Serra made Matt look like a great guy. He spent the whole season talking **** about hughes. Said he wouldn't let his kids watch the show because of Hughes potty mouth. Last I checked Serra had a WAY bigger potty mouth.

There was an interview not too long ago where Serra said he and Hughes will have to fight sooner or later.

Hughes was a HUGH ass the first time he was on TUFF but was much more well mannered the second time.

I think you're right that GSP is an amazing wrestler. He's proved that against two of the best in Hughes and Koscheck. I think he's BJJ is a lot better than people probably think. He just hasn't had to use it.

I always thought Serra was pretty funny. I didnt like a lot of his trash talk about Canadians being drunks and bashing Quebec, but I still like the guy. I'd like to see him destroy hughes but I suspect he won't. And for the record, I thought Hughes looked like a huge dick on his latest stint on TUF. Hes a cockmonger for a coach.

Heres some of my favorite .gifs from that card. lol

What was up with Calup? Nate made him look like an even bigger ass than he was making himself look like. I got a good chuckle out of that fight. I'd like to be a fly on the wall when Dana has a meeting both of those guys

an interesting rumor about Starnes

Sadly, one of the more memorable visuals from UFC 83 last Saturday night was Kalib Starnes practically running away from Nate Quarry during their fight. Many questioned Starnes' heart heading into the fight and he certainly did make a statement.

The "running man" was on the radio this morning to explain what happened. Thanks to reader dudeski for sending in this recap"

Just heard Starnes on the radio station from Montreal.

Basically he sets the record straight and backs it up with proof. As many of you know this was his last fight of the UFC contract and he has always voiced his dissatisfaction with his salary. Basically after the Kendall Grove fight where his rib was broken, UFC did NOT cover any medical bills even though it happened on the "work site".

He said that he is one of the many fighters who get injured and never compensated by the UFC. He was well aware that he was on the main card because it was Canada, and this being his last fight he decided to protest in the names of all underpaid fighters and screw over the UFC.

This is NO joke because he claimed that the only reason Dana White officially released the fight bonuses was in order to counter-act the public statement that Starnes is about to make or would have made. However, since the 75k fight bonuses were disclosed Kalib's martyr actions may not be as significant.

Nevertheless, expect an official statement later this week as his gym is holding a official press conference on Wednesday. We all know that the "real" Kalib Starnes would have never fought the way he did and luckily there IS an explanation.

A funny note from Hughes. He and Serra fighting should be a good show.

ormer UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes has spoken out about last weekend's fight between Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra at UFC 83:

"GSP had a good game plan to take Matt Serra down and wear him out. I found myself rooting for Serra at the end of the second round, I wanted him to make it to the third round. I thought if it would get to the third round GSP would decide to stand up with him and possibly knock him out. I just wanted Matt to get beat on for five rounds, not just two; but I knew the ref was about ready to stop it. The UFC said that if Serra loses I get him, but I don’t know when that will be. I’m going to guess six to eight months, so I’ve found myself watching my diet and exercising more.”

The two men were opposing coaches on the previous season of The Ultimate Figher and were supposed to fight at UFC 79: "Nemesis" in December. Serra had to withdraw from the fight because of a back injury sustained during training. Now, GSP's 2 most recent victims have a clear path to go at it once and for all.

GSP news:

UFC president Dana White has stated that Jon Fitch is likely next in line for a shot at the UFC welterweight title. St. Pierre predicted victory if Fitch is his next opponent and added, "I will fight everybody the UFC puts in front of me."

Mentioned in the UFC 83 post-fight press conference by White and the media, there's a possibility of St. Pierre moving up to the middleweight division, but St. Pierre stipulated that it would have to be a "super fight" situation.

Asked if he'd consider moving up to take on UFC middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva, St. Pierre responded, "Maybe. Who knows? We'll see. We'll talk about it. Maybe. It might be interesting. We'll see."

At this time from a business stand point Dana White would be foolish to let them fight.

I think he could give him fits on the ground.

I think you are right. That is a loose loose for the UFC. Big fights make for HUGE PPV buy rates though.

GSP's wrestling is amazing as he's proven, but Silva is a much bigger stronger man. I'm just not sure GSP would be able to handle him the way he does the 170 guys.

Bigger yes, stronger I don’t think Silva is “stronger” than Hughs/Serra.. That being said I think the size is what’s important in this case. Silva loves the body triangle and has legs long enough to really lock it in. This will definitely help against GSP’s viscous ground & pound, but I still think he can find a way to get the job done.

I don’t like GSP standing with Silva for any length of time at all.

I think Silva proved how strong he was against Franklin. Franklin said he was amazed by how strong Silva was. He had his way both times with Franklin in the clinch. I think he's just a larger stronger man. I could be wrong but that's just how it seems.

As far as him standing with Silva I think that's out of the question. Then again I think that's out of the question for just about anyone in the UFC :D
