Ugh, how does this happen?!

Warning: this is mostly a rant of my latest Mustang servicing.

My '07 GT has had a rattling noise coming from under the car at a certain RPM when it's cold. It would go away whenever it warmed up so I wasn't too worried and lived with it until it was time for an oil change. I bring it in to the local Ford service department to leave it over night with them so they can start it in the morning and diagnose the rattling and fix it along with do an oil change.

I pick it up today around lunch time and they said they fixed the rattle and I'm all set. On the drive home I notice a noise I haven't heard before. After a few minutes I figure out it's the drivers side window rattling against something inside the door (I had the windows down). So now every time I go over a bump or close the door with the window down it rattles annoyingly. How do they go and fix one noise then produce another one? I had never heard the window rattle like this before I brought it in.

I called them back up and scheduled to bring it in on Monday and have them fix this while I wait. I'm going to make sure I don't hear any new noises before I leave

Most of the Ford techs are probably on work leave from high school or freshmen at the local CC and know little more about your car than you do. I've seen the kids at my local dealership and I try to work on my car by myself even if its a warranty issue. I dont trust those punk 16-17 year old kids as far as I can throw them. Always reset your tripometer before leaving your car there overnight. One time I had 15 miles extra on my 95 GT after taking it to the dealership for an oil change. They probably beat the piss out of it.

Sorry to hear about your problem. It could be unrelated, or it could be that they fixed one rattle and caused another.

I remember a new Oldsmobile with a terrible rattle coming from the right front when going over bumps. I brought it to the dealer. They couldn't find a problem. I brought it in again. They couldn't' find a problem. Finally, I went for a ride with the shop foreman. He said he knew exactly what was wrong. The inner fender was not fastened properly to the outer fender. I got the car back. Rattle gone!!! But in the process of repairing the rattle, they pinched a wire so that the courtesy lights did not come on when the passenger door was opened. They fixed that and all was well.

dealer horror stories I got one, bought one of the early focus hatchback, leaked like crazy in the rain, took 11 visits to shop and many hours before they finally got it stopped, much later took it back to have call back done to car, they took it for a test drive and it caught fire and burned up the left side of the motor, they assured me that they would be happen to fix it for free. My insurance company told me to pick out a new car and that they were gonna sue their ass (exact words), the dealer even wanted me to pay the towing to get it back to the dealership after the test drive. I bought a honda

I think I may have figured out what caused the window to start rattling. I noticed a fairly sizable paint scratch on the door handle on my drivers side. It appears that some tech or someone working on my car slammed my door into something causing something in the door to come loose or break and rattle whenever I drive. When I go back for my appointment tomorrow I'm going to point it out and say that it must have been them and demand they fix my window and reimburse me for the cost to get the door handle repainted.
