I've been noticing a very annoying squeal coming from my rear passenger side wheel when i've reversed lately. Today, I pulled into my parking lot, pulled the ebrake, and all of sudden, it sounded like it snapped, and there was no more tension on the ebrake handle. I groaned, then tried the ebrake handle again, and it seemed like there was nothing wrong...

what just happened, what can i go outside and look for right now?

help!

GIve it a once over underneath the car. The attaching flange for the cable (near the trans) might have snapped. This can lead to an ebrake that does not always catch (it depends how the handle is pulled).

It sounds like it was dragging before, but I'm not sure why it let loose, and had no tension? I know there was a recall on the 94-95's that the e-brake can suddenly disengage, allowing the car to roll, so maybe that has something to do with it? Do you know if your car has had the recall fixed?

hrmm...not sure, but i'm gonna go outside now and take a look. This is a pretty easy fix, i assume. Am I wrong?

mine poped like that before never worried about it cause my ebrake sucks anyway.

The recall they take out you center console put in a new thing and put it back together

well i fixed it....checked out my rear brakes along the way and realized that the squeaky wheel had uneven wear on the brake pads, gave them a quick change, and in the meantime, i decided to install my wheel spacers....wow, the difference in how it looks with the spacers is amazing.

What size spacers? Do you know (or anyone) how many threads/turns one needs to have go through the lug nut to be safe?

Nice work getting it fixed.

StangGT1995, thanks for the recall info - I did not know about that one. I tend to trust ebrakes about as far as I can push the car with the brake applied.

The spacers are huge, I'll attach a pic here....I honestly don't know about the threads/turns issue, but now that you mention it, I would like to know this as well, for safety sake. thanks for the thought though....would suck to lose a wheel on the highway

The e-brake handle popping, then working fine the next time around ... well known issue, so much so that at one point Ford issued a recall on it. I've only ever had it happen once, on a friend's '95 GT vert.

I've heard 6 threads is the limit.

Also, on my '90 GT my e-brake snaps loose like that once in awhile. It sucks
