is there anywhere you can buy unassembled afr 165's? I want to get them port and polished as soon as i get them and my 1.7 rr put on them from my gt40p's. Also with the FTI cam will my stock cobra upper and lower intake be ok till i can afford a performer/rpmII? Is there anything else as in injectors or other fuel parts that would be needed?

If the 165's need to be ported maybe you should think about getting 185's they are the same price. The stock cobra will work but the rpm II will give you a nice hp gain. And your 24 lb injectors should be enough for your application.

well i can get port and polish for $200. How much are the 185's? Would the 1.7rr be better than the 1.6rr? Would the afr 165 valves without the upgrade be ok with the extra lift? Anyone have a link for a cheap place to get a FTI cam?

185's are the same price as 165's. Cobra 1.7 rr fit under stock valve cover 1.6's take some massaging to fit. The spring package should be fine just check piston to valve clearance. Also depending on how much power you want 165's unported will do just fine

If you want to do 185's on stock shortblock/rotating assembly, you'll need to flycut the pistons since they have the larger 2.02 intake valves.

I'm pretty sure you can buy the 165's unassembled directly from AFR...check their website. And yes, that Cobra Intake will be fine...maybe not the most ideal for absolute maximum horsepower, but it will make for a very fun street car. I'll have numbers soon for my car.

There is no "cheap place" for an FTI cam.... FTI cams come from FTI and they cost $325.

Why do you feel you want/need to port an AFR head? I know they sell them unported and with unfinished ports... this mean you have to port and masage them like YOU want, but I garantee no one will touch them for $200... you are talking about a TON of material that will need to be removed. They come AS CAST with a ~145cc intake port that has NOTHING done to it.

Your cobra intake will be fine. If it was me, I'd put box stock AFR's on there and send the cobra intake to FTI to be ported for slightly more than your head port job will cost. Ed has a lot of AFR/cobra (GT40) combo's around making great power.
