Under hood Shroud

Ok so im a little anal about my engine being clean.. What exactly does the hood shroud thingy do...?? I know its probly the dumbest question thats been asked in a while ! But humor me guys/girls! Thanks

What are you talking about? Are you talking about the hood blanket? ... or the plastic fan shroud? I have no idea ..

I would guess he is talking about the blanket. I think it's there to block heat, to protect the hood?

Yeh the hood blanket thingy ! Is it ok to ditch that or is it really needed..??

I wouldn't ditch it. Depending on the color of your car the primer look that hides under isn't cool.

My Whipple install instructions say to remove the blanket. I left it on but hate the way it looks. I'm working on another option or two and will report back with pics when I find something that works.

Correct. The plastic push pins melt and the cover drops to smother an engine fire.

I remove them from all of my Mustangs. I don't mind the extra engine noise (all the better to hear the supercharger whine!). Some cars get better paint under the hood than others, but most look fine without the hood blanket.
