uneven wear on brake pad plus bent brake pad backing plate

its my pickup in question here (85 f150 4x4) the drivers side outer front brake pad has wore 2 times as fast as the rest of the front brake pads, it is almost down to the backing plate... also one of the tabs that hookes into the caliper is bent inwards and rubbing on the rotor....


what causes uneven wear on brake pads and why would that one pad be all bent to snot?????

Too much stump jumpin I imagine. Gotta be from uneven caliper pressure. Do those things have a proportioning valve? Bent up????? Must have been in a bind at sometime and was partially froze up when it popped loose. Is the thing pulling to one side greater than any other?

if the outter pad is wearing more the caliper is stuck on the slides, take it apart and lube up the slides with white lube.

Yes, one must always take that into consideration.

so the disc brakes are a "full floating" brake system??? thats kinda what i thought looking at it, i built a go cart back in high school with the same princaple.....

What type of lube do you mean???

i put high temp anti sieze compound on, not good enough????

I generally use the white lithium grease, but the antisieze should be fine, just a little overkill.

ok well i just checked i have 34,000 km on those front pads, alot of that is muddin around, when i replace them i think ill fire up the wire brush and clean up all the rusty rough surfaces on the caliper etc and lube it up... thanks for the advice....
