UPR or not?

hey ive been looking for some control arms and i was woundering if any would recomend this

the price seems really good i dont know if its a bargain or a rip off what do you guys think
the rest of hte control amrs (lower and upper) are around 350-450 for a set a 4, and this set of 4 is 200 whats the deal? is chrome moly not as good as the alluminum ones?

I have them, they work great. You wont be able to hook up your rear swaybar though.

See this months MMFF??? they installed that model on a suspension revamp they did..They chose that type over the spherical bearings for noise/ride control....Spoke highly of them...

Check out the Suspension section on Corral classfieds...A gent by the name of Artsparts is a UPR dealer...he quoted me 190.00 shipped for that same model in your link...I would assume they have the swaybar brackets as they're show with em?? I would verify that with Art..

Seriously, UPR is a few miles from me and I choose to do business elsewhere. I wish I can go into further details but I don't vendor bash. Find something else.

I have UPR and found nothing but great quality with them. I know a lot of top racers also choose them. If there's a reason I should look elsewhere, please let me know.

If 'Made in China' isn't good enough, how about the fact that they don't have a single original product (last time I checked). They're just cheaper versions of products that many other companies have spent a lot of time and money on R&D. Do their products get the job done?? Sure they do, or they'd be out of business.

For example, call Wild Rides and ask them about their Battle Boxes and how they compare to UPR's...you'll get a heartfelt earfull. I've had both sets in hand for comparison and Wild Rides' are much thicker.

Spend your money how you like. I go out of my way, and sometimes spend a little extra, to ensure I'm getting quality products that are not 'made in china'. There's enough US made suspension parts out there that the foreign parts shouldn't even be able to survive...but that's JMO

Let's not turn this is into an anti-American thing. I certainly am as pro-US as the next guy, and I don't think I have ever said anything to the contrary. In fact, I've often said how I like to buy US made products over foreign made in the past. I don't know where you pulled this negative idea out of, but you should stick it back there.

Now, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone say that UPR products are made overseas. Mine didn't have any stamps on them indicating that, nor did any of the materials that I recieved with them. Their website also mentions nothing of this. The quality of them was no less than top-notch regardless of whether they were or not. I didn't buy them because they were the cheapest, which they certainly weren't, I bought them because many of the top racers in the country use their parts, and after speaking with some of them, I was sold.

I know that some (not all) of their products are "copies" or similar to other designs. So are most other companies on the market. It's not really fair to single out one brand. Some of their products are obviously engineered by them as they exist nowhere else on the market. That part you are definitely wrong on, as you can look and see plenty of that.

As for the battle boxes -- I went with UPR and I see no reason not to do it again. The steel was plenty thick, 1/8" IIRC. I doubt anyone else is using thicker steel, and if they are I can't see that it does anything for them.

BTW, If I called a company and asked them to compare their product to another companies similar product and they said that the other companies was better, my jaw would hit the floor. The fact that you say you did makes me wonder why you would even think to do that at all.

I didn't mean to put you into the anti-American pot...accept my apology if that's the way I came across Somebody else brought ‘made in china’ to the table. It just happens to be a topic that I'm very adamant about. In the future I'll try to reserve certain topics for the appropriate forums.

I haven't done any shopping with UPR for quite some time, so I stand corrected if they have some performance products of their own. I know they've got a huge selection of dress-up items that are probably originals. I guess I'm just partial to the little man. i.e. Anthony Jones, Jim Reichard, the guys at PA Performance...just a few that came to mind. I know these guys put out a lot of pieces with just a few of people in the shop. In Jim's case...just him (but it's been almost 2 years since I was down. I would think by now that he's probably put up a shop and moved out of the garage...probably got a helper or 2 by now, too.)

I also didn't mean to suggest that UPR's battle boxes were substandard or couldn't get the job done. I was simply saying that I've had both sets in hand, and the difference was significant. I also didn't call Wild Rides looking for a comparison to UPR's products. I needed the rolled uppers and I called them because they're 'local'. I had recently been to the track and had a chance to look at some of UPR's items so it was only natural to ask 'What are the differences and what makes yours better?'. 10 minutes later I had way too much info and an earache




Guess I got so caught up in the made in china thing, that I forgot about the original question.

kolkid: If you’re running on a tight budget, you might also consider JD's control arms. I don't know who makes them, but it might save you a few $$$. They look very much like Factory Five's arms. For a street/strip car, the weight difference between the CM & the mild steel arms is negligible.

also do the upr uppers come with both ends of bushings with them cause in the picture i only see one end with bushings do u reuse the other end?

I don't think most places send the bushings for the top of the housing. You'd have to call and ask to be sure. Another thing you could look into is Competition Engineering's solid control arm bushings (C3164)

Vib....I must admit...I like your style...you don't trash companies at all...you're kind of like....the forum gangster...or something.

Personally, I've ordered a couple of UPR products for my car, only one for any kind of performance, and that's the shifter....hopefully that works fine when I finally install it next month...

You can PM me too as UPR is local to me and bought quite a few things from them.
