I've been doing a little bit of researching on the pypes x and the common theme it seems is fitment and leaks. Which concerns me so I may changed my mind and opt for the upr. By the way upr and vrs are the same pipe.
Really? Ok I was always under the impression that vrs + upr= the same.
and make sure you get a new gasket for the passenger side collector from your local parts store. kit does not supply one
also, i had to get a generic crush gasket for the drivers side to seal up the horrible exhaust leak i got after the install. overtightened it because it was still seeping and split it. it barely leaks but i need to replace it.
What version do you have. Does it have the sleeve in it? If it is the modular version and you do have the sleeve, lmk and I'll send you another downpipe to replace it.
3. On 98-04 models, there is a very thin metal/rubber gasket that goes between the midpipe and manifolds. It this is not reused, you will get a bad exhaust leak. If it is not seated properly, you will get a bad exhaust leak.
The 3 piece stainless is the new version. Your problem is on the LH side. Check to see if there is a metal sleeve installed in the flared end at the manifold. If no, I'll get you one. It just drops in the top of the pipe. If yes, also look at the manifold stud. Ford used 2 different manifold stud designs. Some of the studs have a shoulder on them that prevents the flared pipe to fully seat on the manifold. If that is the case, replace that stud with a generic parts store stud and that should solve your problem.i honestly do not know what version i have. i do know its a 3 piece and stainless. i actually ordered a UPR and got the Pypes, which is ok. the specifics when i ordered labeled the pipe 99-04 2v. i like the pipe but the leaks are driving me nuts. its not terrible, but noticeable inside the car under a load.
the generic crush gasket i got from advance auto parts fit well on the drivers side "collector". i had to do something because after the inital install the exhaust was beyond horrible. it still leaks some tho. is this where that sleeve you speak of goes? what is it and how do i get one? how much is it? how do i install it?
where the legs connect to the X, we tried out best to eliminate the leaks but could not using the clamps that came with it. ordered some wide band clamps and installed these a few weeks ago ( i kept the clamps that came with the kit ). still leaks. should i reinstall the clamps the kit came with and just absolutely tighten the pee-waasee out of them? we got them very tight but was afraid to go much more.
please understand im not unhappy with my x pipe, just not overly happy. IMO, there is not mid pipe out there that will fit absolutely perfect.

well, take what i said with a grain of salt. i dont know for sure. but most manufacturers wont advertise another company on their own website unless they are partnered.
edit: after thinking about it, i guess there are several companies that do sell other parts that arent labeled as their own. however i do still think upr & pypes are in cahoots
