You keep saying that... Where did you see me question anything other than their reputation?

As far as that goes... it took Google .25 seconds to fill a page with discussions etc. about various failures. I'm sure that for every one that someone can find there will be others that are perfectly happy with theirs (you for one appearantly).

So... back to my original question. Where does this reputation come from and what does the the part maker and marketer need to do to fix it?

How does the dude that chimed in from UPR feel their products compare in quality to the likes of Griggs or MM or any of the other companies that DON'T have this same reputation?

Is it sheer luck that there are multiple threads on every Stang forum about fitment, failure, and quality issues? If it's infounded, where does this stigma come from?

Oh wait... what I'm doing is bad-mouthing by asking the question?

Sorry.

Seriously though... I have zero UPR suspension components. I've got stuff from various others and consider my setup on the heavy side for what's driven primarily on the street. Have I seen broken UPR stuff? Yep. I've also seen broken MM stuff too so it's a wash. What I run into time and time again though, is bad press about UPR components (and others) where I don't get that kind of feedback from what I (and most) consider to be companies consistant with high(er) quality. Why?

How do you not agree unless you bolded too much, where has MM's quality ever come under fire? Why is it that MM is still the number 1 choice amongst enthusiasts?

The price you pay for MM is the guarantee that i will NOT fail under any circumstances, find me a place where MM has come under fire for inferior products. UPR can lay claim to using the best parts blah blah, but we've all held the products from what ive seen, shoddy welds, improper weld penetration, and that typical "cheap" feeling when you hold it. Not to mention they dont design or R&D their own stuff, rather just steal it from other companies, and rely on those companies testing for their products to last cause they stole it.

If you can tell how a weld is penetrated just by looking at it then your are some kind of super human. A weld can look pretty and still be complete junk

Is it sheer luck that I googled upr k-member failure and what i found was a bunch of people asking about the quality of UPR suspension... and the people who replied complimented on the fitment and were satisfied. THESE WERE PEOPLE WHO ACUTALLY OWN THIER PRODUCTS.

Now in this post you showed pictures of two k-members then said "The customers who continually break parts?" well where are the broken suspension parts????

In the case of the K members, when i received my k -member the mounting plates were just a hair over 3/8" thick, where the bottom tubes came and met with the plates you could see through the powder coat where the weld beads were on the opposite side, just like any other weld like that. That shows some good weld penetration. Something i have not seen on UPR k-members, but I have no experience running them, just installing them.

What UPR stuff have you seen broken? Also, i have a set of those same LCA's on my car, and since you, a post whore who lives in a box by walmart, say they broke on some random guys car I think i should sell myne right now because i am in fear that they are gonna kill me.

When a part breaks its not always black and white, it could have been installed wrong, another part on the car could have cause the part to fail also.

I had an Eddy UCA crack a weld, but before i went to sling mud at them on the internet i did some investigation as to why it broke, and what i figured out is that when i ripped the upper tq box out of my car i was pulling the upper arm in a direction that it was not meant to be pulled so the weld failed. Not my fault, not edelbrocks either......

You running for office on a liberal platform? Read again... it's a question. Also one that acknowledges that even the best companies have failures. Twist it how you want and avoid answering the question. Where does this rep come from?

Start a conversation about UPR and it ends up as this thread does. Who's responsible for that? The customers who continually break parts? If so... why doesn't MM have that reputation? I'm sure that MM parts have broken before but at what comparative rate? (rhetorical)

The part I refer to is an MM part. It was a track dial-in-day, and no I don't know the dude. I tell ya what... worry about your own whoring there champ.

So again... This was an MM part that failed yet they haven't attracted the same negative attention? Why has UPR? What's different?

If you don't have the answer to the question then don't answer it. Attempting to try and twist a post for lack of anything better to say is good for what?

I dont want to upset anybody, but isnt copying an idea just a part of buisness? I mean if you can see someones idea and improve on it, what is really the fault? The guy whos's story was about the billet manifold tree, its very unfortunate indeed if its true. However, the old story comes to mind, You snooze you lose! Assume nothing and question everything. I only have a few UPR things and I have been pleased with their products and customer service. I believe I talked with Jeremy on a return and exchange item, and everything went exactlyu like it should have!

are we bringing politics into this now, ill ignore that

ok heres your answer, i would guess that most of the people that bash UPR dont have thier stuff on thier cars, ive said it a few times, im not trying to twist anything around(ive also asked questions to you with no answer, so are you trying to twist things), Google what i said above and read some of the many threads about UPR "issues" they have many satisfied customers. And then theres the people that say their stuff "looks cheap" and have no real world personal expierience with thier products.

Neither do I (pretty sure I mentioned that too). That's primarily why I asked the question. I mean... I'm pretty sure that some of my under hood pieces might be from UPR maybe some interior too ( can't say for sure as I've purchased from a lot of vendors ).

I'd probably have gone past this thread all together had I not seen the dude from UPR post back. A perfect opportunity to get it from the source the way I see it.

Nada... thread just turns to bitchy defensiveness. TehLoze

Every manufacturer experiences failures. I'm intereseted presently, why a poor reputation sticks to the likes of UPR and Granatelli etc.

I get the part where folks spread garbage about things they've never owned. That sort of thing doesn't usually persist without merit. I'd a bit concerned if I manufactured parts and word was spreading that I made cheap knock-offs.

GENTLEMEN easy easy!

I will respond as best I can to all of the questions. How do I view our quality versus MM or any other. I view MM as one of the best in the industry at what they try to achieve. I also view UPR as one if the best as well. I will try to explain myself quickly and easily. Mickey Thompson makes lightweight wheels. BBS makes lightweight wheels. Both are great companies with a great product. MM's k member or business in general is geared towards handling. UPR has been mostly geared towards drag racing or traffic light to traffic light racing. The MM kit is awesome and it will stand up to all of the abuse that road racing puts out. The UPR kit is less than half the weight and is what us drag racers need/want.

I have to leave to pick up my little guy from school! I will be back on here shortly!
Once again thanks to stang net for allowing both sides to have a place to debate.

i think the problem lies with the fact UPR and Granatelli are willing to go online and talk with the owners and when they get bashed they defend themselves. and when you have parts priced so much cheaper then everyone people assume its made in china... even if it IS made in china being in the line of work im in i know you can get some VERY VERY nice stuff out of china. and you can get some complete **** out of the USA. im sure now that UPR knows they have an issue with the bolts being used on this part they will find a solution to fix the issue...
