UPR quad,firewall adjuster, where do you guys have yours?

was wondering where you guys have your quadrents and firewall adjusters, adjusted to..what hook and how far out on the firewall adjuster?

Should have instructions. I know the Steeda one did. Mine is on the hook nearest the firewall.

From what I remember of the Steeda instructions, it all depends on whether or not your cable is adjustable.

I have a 90 GT and a 98 GT and they both have UPR quadrents and adjusters. They both have the cable hooked to the middle hook on the quadrent. As for the firewall adjuster, couldn't say for sure. I just adjusted them to work the way I like them. Maybe 3/4"-1" out from the firewall if I had to guess.

Stock cable, 2nd hook, firewall adjuster almost all the way out, brand new clutch.

This is what I find 95% of the time...

Remember to grind the 3 little tabs off of the cable nylon bushing that goes into the firewall adjuster, through the rubber bushing away, use some antiseize on the threads of the adjuster and some on the nylon bushing.

DAM IT!! I never thought of that!

I had to repace the crappy UPR cable on my 98 last night. Half of the cables strands were broken after about 5 weeks use. I used a new Ford cable this time. No question which is a better cable.

Anyway, I was wondering if some sort of grease or lube should be applied to the quadrant where the cable hooks to it and the slot that the cable rides in when the clutch pedel is pressed down. What do you think?

Yes I always put a small coating of synthetic grease in the slot and end where the cable runs on the quadrant

Looks like it's back to the garage this weekend to put some grease on that thing.

Would have been soooo much easier to do last night. Oh well, live and learn I guess. LOL!!

As long as I'm going to be under the dash I'm going to look at putting a couple pieces of rubber hose to space the quadrent over so it stays lined up with the hole in the firewall too.

its my old stock cable..new spec III clutch....car drives..but it engages really high up...REALLY high up...and when pushed to the floor at a stop light i have to rev it to around 2500rpm to get it in first gear....its on the ..uhhh first hook i think with the firewall adjuster bout half way out....hopefully i can switch to the middle hook and get it to engage like i want

P.S. i didnt grease mine either...ooops

I always adjust mine so the peddle only has to move about 4"-5" to disengage the clutch and complete the shift. I push the peddle to the floor only to start the car.

I set it right around the smae height as the brake pedal as far as diengagement goes.

Demon, moving to the second hook and readjusting the firewall adjuster will take care of your issue.

One thing to remember is not to crank it up to far.. This could pre-load the clutch fingers and when the clutch is to the floor will over extend the spring fingers..

Not to hijack your thread, but I have the steeda quadrant and I am having the same problem as Demon insofar as I am having to press the clutch as far as it would go, and also having to rev the crap out of it to get into gear.

1. Is it more important to have the cable on the 2nd hook or is the firewall adjustment more important.

2. When adjusting at the firewall, after loosening the small allen screw, it adjusted pretty easy. How far out should i be turning this? I am turning it counter clockwise to get it to allow the clutch to catch farther away from the floor.

My friend had the same problem. We had to switch it to one of the other hooks on the quadrent. That fixed it for him. Probably fix it for you too.

Rick91gt and all others who posted in this thread...i have fixed my timing cover leak..and moved cable to second hook...firewall adjuster is pretty far out...not all the way but close...i started car and put it in reverse...and i had the clutch almost all the way out and the car never moved a inch...when car was off and you pushed pedal in it was making a funny noise...no way to discribe it...other then to me it sounded to tight...but anyway...so is this normal to have the car not move with this seting?? im starting to get worryed now...that the clutch will ONLY engage the way i had it set before....

if i turn the adjuster CLOSER to the firewall to loosen it..will that make the engagement higher? or lower?...it should lower it shouldnt it?

If you move the ajjuster towards the way the release point will be closer to the floor..

I beleive closer to the firewall make the pedal lower to the floor.

What the TOB look like in relationship to the fork and fingers on the clutch? What brand cable is it? What is the path the cable is routed to get to the tranny?

as far as i can see the TOB looks normal...looks ok...cable is the stock cable...cable is routed same as it would be from factory..sept there is a bracket that holds it and it had to be bent upward to clear the headers...

im going to try to loosen the firewall adjuster today and see what happens....

edit: is there anything specific i should be looken for in relation to the TOB?
