With hyd lifters you will have them pump up at high rpm's. If you run them loose they can pump up more thus you gain a bit more lift.

This is great on a race car but the gain in lift comes with more valve train noise which might not be what one wants for their street car.

Each cam & valve train can be different about how much pre load it will take to give a quiet or at least kinda sorta quiet operation. You just have to try what works best for you and here is one of the benefits of stud mount rockers......ease of & flexable valve adjustments.

HYDRAULIC LIFTER/VALVE ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

1. Remove the valve covers, and pick a cylinder you are going to set the pre-load on. Only do one cylinder at a time.

2. Rotate the engine in its normal direction of rotation (clockwise) and watch the exhaust valve on that particular cylinder. When the exhaust valve begins to open, stop and adjust that cylinder's intake rocker arm.

How much should the lifter move upward before you know it's time to adjust the adjacent rocker? If you say begins to open, this could mean many different lengths in movement.

Is this process considered adjusting overlap?

I'm going to try and lash my valves tomorrow morning. Does anybody have any input on this?
It would really help out a lot!

The way I do it is the moment I see the rocker move...stop...do the adjustment...
I did mine warm to...took it out for a short drive....i wanted to make sure everything was pumped up and at temp somewhat...by the time you get the covers off. it'll still be fairly warm...

The car is a couple weeks away from being able to start. In this case, I'm looking at lifter movement rather than rocker movement because this is a new install. These rockers are brand new outta the box.

I soaked my lifters in oil and they were full of oil long enough to adjust my rockers.
