Use head gasket when checking piston to valve?

Hey guys, I have a question pertaining to checking piston to valve clearance. When you check the valves, do you place your headgasket, torque the head to spec, remove it, check the clearance then reuse the gasket? Just curious so I'll know whether to order another gasket or not. Thanks.

When I checked mine, I put the gasket on and put only a few bolts on just enough to make the head snug.

I used an old set of gaskets so I wouldn't ruin my new ones.

i personaly didnt use any headgaskets while checking pvc for the simple fact that it would bring the valve that much closer

I've always read/heard not to use anything, just put the head on the block and snug it down. That gives you a head gasket's thickness of extra clearance, which is a good thing.
