Next time you "let your fingers do the walking", please remember that Ma Bell's CEO received $60.7 million in total compensation and we can't even get new tires for our work vans! Yes, our company mechanic said they cannot get new tires, so they have been remounting used tires on company vehicles.

The funny part was, a couple of days ago, our supervisors did a safety "ride along" and my supervisor pointed out the worn tires. He said he'll get right on it and get me new tires. Still waiting.

When I was in college I worked for an Auto Parts store, one store I was assigned to put me into the "delivery driver" position. The truck was a real piece of work--once you got past the filth, the shifter was broken off and was replaced by a threaded rod with heater hose over it, the windshield looked like it had been on a golf driving range for a few days, and best of all the tires looked like racing slicks, and there was more. I drove the truck for a few days, notified the manager of the tires and informed him if it rained, I wouldn't be driving his truck. Sure enough it rained 2 days later. The deliveries had to wait until tires were installed that morning. I felt I took a chance on getting fired, but it was a worthy cause in my mind. Had I crashed due to the tires, who knows, maybe I wouldn't need to work anymore?

What's Ma Bell?

Either way, just fishtail a couple of those beasts into some telephone poles, and they'll see how much cheaper new tires are compared to body work.
