v6 2005 - Don't Laugh

Just my point of view here ..

I like in the '05 mustang the new interior, the more hps, better handling, better suspension, better structure...

However, the more & more I'm looking at it, the more I don't like the exterior of the car.. I don't like the plain hood, the grill, the foglights, the too squarish head lights, the big fatty plain butt, the wheels, the side mirrors... Of course that's a matter of taste, but i have the impression that the Mustang has evolved through the years reaching a high with the current model. Now the new one, we're taking a step back.. I like retro stuff sometimes but hmm.. I'm not sure it's that well done on the '05 Mustang.. The more & more I'm looking at it, I think I'm gonna go this summer with a brand new V8 04 Mustang.. oh yeah & the main advantage will be that I'll get a fine tuned car over the years at a lower-than-cost price.. No when the neighbor is gonna buy the new 05 I'm not going to be mad... same thing happened at BMW .. when they introduced the new design.. so many people were mad against BMW... that's why they didnt touch at the 3 series... cause it's what is bringing them money.

My 2 cents.

By the way, the V6 '04 is selling now for 14.000 $ ... I'm sure the V8 will be available for 16-17000$ soon

My choice is the GT BUT................

I owned a 70 Fastback with a 250 6 cylinder-Brads nomenclature says this block was a V-8 but mine was definately a 6 popper. It was pretty weak compared to the 302s and such it competed with. I finally want the "go" to go with the "show" but check it out; at 202 horses for a V-6 you are in good company with previous Mustangs;

68 289s produced 198 horses
2V 302s produced 210

In 69 the 302s boosted to 220. This is all according to the Brad Barrett info. Do you need 300 horses is the question I guess.

Why justify?

After thinking, reading and replying, I think people who want the v6 (I may be one of them) shouldn't need to justify why they want one. The '05 will be my 3rd stang and I have encounted people who use thier car as a status symbol and others who just don't like something they are into. I have a 86GT and I've met people who don't like Foxes and I had a 97GT and some people don't like SN95's. Then there are people who don't Cobras or Roushs or classics or Mustang II's. I think you should repsect whatever type of stang someone has because it's everyone they owns one that keeps the Mustang going and not falling to the fate of the GM and Pontiac guys. I'll get off of my box now. Thanks :flag:

Also when you think about it,those HP ratings are the gross ratings,so the '05 V6 would more than hold its own against any of the smaller V8 stangs of the last 40 years. Does anyone know how you could convert net HP back into gross? Just curious what the '05 V6 would make in the 1960's. This is a great time for a mustang buyer,"base" isn't "base" anymore, any mustang you get is a great value.
Also, the "why mod a V6 when you can just buy a V8" thing doesn't hold water. You could easily say that about any car......."why mod a GT when you can buy a cobra....why mod a cobra when you buy a vette.....why mod a vette when you can buy a viper or 911......blah,blah,blah. I've seen a '65 I6 with a supercharger,i've seen a mustang II with a 351 in it.It's creative,it's different. I think it's great,it's challenging to different. That's why i love the mustang II and their owners,NOW there are some mustang fanatics!! Modding a V6 shouldn't be dismissed,at least it's a interest in cars and mustangs in general.a guy that mods a civic is just as much a car guy as the guy that wrenches on his chevelle.

The numbers dont matter. Its the car and the way it makes you feel.
:nice: For me, I love my mustang, ya I know it's one of the crappiest you can get, but i still love everything about it, the way it handles, the way it fits me like a glove everything, it's a mustang and thats all that matters to me :hail2:
I'll be one of those people that helps sales in the mustang by buying a base model so that all the super serious mustang guys (and girls) can get the better versions, I'll have no shame at all upgrading from an 89 2.3L to a brand spankin V6 '05 I like all mustangs, and for me the V6 will be more than enough (I mean, come on, look at what I drive now, if i love *that* thing, I'm sure I'll be MORE than happy with a V6)

This discussion will never reach a conclusion...

This whole argument over the v6 and the v8 will never reach an end. To me, when a GT owner acts like an idiot and makes comments about my car, I seriously laugh in his face because although it is a GT, it isn't God's gift to performance. Granted it's much better than my 3.8, it isn't a car that you can go around and act like you own the road everywhere you go.

Why do I say this? Before my brother had his 04 cobra, he had a 2002 GT that was pretty damn modded. Saleen Series II supercharger, 3.73 gears, intake, chip, pulleys, TB, lightning MAF, headers, straight pipes, steeda g trac suspension stages 1,2,and 3 and a few other things I can't recall. The car ONLY made 319 RWH at the dyno. The torque however was very high which is what helped it go 12.6 in 1/4. However, he spent a lot to get it there.

Fast forward to this year when he bought the Cobra. Bought the Cobra, put a few bolt ons in it and he ran 11.6@122mph. So, to all of the GTs who say modding a v6 is worthless...there is your example. Whyd didn't my brother just buy a Cobra to begin with? It's the same argument as "why mod v6s? they're worthless." I would never mod my car in that manner because it is much harder and costs to make it more go faster than a GT would, but when I see someone who has done I find it very impressive.

A GT is a kickass car, and no one should ever doubt it, but it isn't the ultimate hot rod out there. Would I own a GT at this point if I could? of course, but I am still content with what I got at this point in my life. Each person has an opinion, and if people think v6s are worthless then it's cool, it's how they feel. I don't have to agree or disagree, because in the end no one pays my bills but me.

Actually, there's nothing "wussy" about a V-6 Ponycar. Mustang or competitor. My daughter drives a V-6 Firebird 5-speed, and I had one earlier. She can outrun most riceboxes and ALL V-8 current edition Thunderbirds, for example. It's the total package, not just the engine. That said, I still am crazy about my V-8s, but from first hand experience, I'll not knock V-6 Mustangs. A Mustang is a Mustang, whether it is V-6, I-6 or V-8.

The V6 Mustang keeps gaining Horesepower.

In the January release, Ford said 200 HP.

When the early draft ordering guide came out, it said 202 HP.

Then a new ordering guide came out a couple weeks ago which said 208 HP.

On Monday May 24 the ordering guide was updated again, it now says 210 HP!

Latest ratings 210 HP @ 5,250 RPM / 240 lb. ft @ 3500 RPM

I did a quick calculation and have figured out that at the above rate of change, if you wait until July 2007 to buy your V6 Mustang, it will have over 300 HP. :rlaugh:

Now that was a great post.

I like the V6 (99-04), though it needed a bit of bumper treatment to get the look I was after, the car itself is no slouch. When I was shopping, I tested the car and found it to have more than enough power for a daily driver. It was everything my 86 5.0 was and then some. The engine even sounds good when you hit the gas. The Magnaflows help make the sound others hear a bit better. It's still a 6 but it sounds better than a coffee can.

I've run a Honda Accord on the highway and they have no chance due to the torque curve - long run he probably would have taken me. Don't do stuff like this - I got a chance to talk to the guy and he thought I was driving a GT the way I could catch and over take him seemingly without effort. The reason I got to talk to him is we were pulled over a few miles down the road(after we stopped playing as luck would have it. haha!)

Going up to speed on route 9 here in NY - 55mph, I had an SN95 GT try to hang with me and it was no contest. The car looked fine, but he was not keeping pace. I'm not that modified so I was expecting to be passed easily. He instead waited till I had a car in front of me 6-8 lengths, paced me at 45 for a few seconds then hammered the gas and riced on by. Not cool.

I like all mustang. I was going to get a new one right away, but I've decided to wait a little while. I'm restoring one of my SVO's to stock and it will become my daily driver. Maybe at that time I'll see where the prices are for both the cars and the gas and go from there. 2.31 a galon right now.

The v-6 model is the rental car version.

I have to have the v-8. For me it is v-8 or no stang at all.

That being said, I don't want to bash the v-6 crowd because they probably like stangs more than I do if they are willing to buy one with a v-6.

About 65% of all Mustangs sold in the last 10 years have been V6's!

Put a good dual exhaust system on the 05 V6 and you'll get another 10 HP and 10 ft and sound good. Then put in a 3.73 rear end and your V6 Stang will rock. :nice:

I'm a V8 guy, but there is no way that I'm going to diss V6 Stang drivers. IF that's what makes you happy or that's what you can afford, that's fine with me. :) . But the 05, 4.0 V6 is going to suprise many of you. It's going to be incredibly smoother and freer reving than the old 3.8. :nice:
