Hey guys,

I know that this is not a 2.3 Question, but I figured you guys know your stuff and may be able to help me out. A friend of mine found an 89 GT with no motor or tranny, apparently the body and interior are immaculate. It is going for $360 Canadian. That is a steal. Now, he does not want to spend the extra money on fuel, so he asked me if it was possible to put a V6 in there as opposed to a 302. I know that it is possible, but how difficult would it be? I would imagine that if you fabricated new motor mounts and a a new tranny mount, everything else should bolt together fairly well and you'd just be left with room to spare. The wiring is all 12 volt, so theoretically that shouldn't be a problem. Anyways, that's about all for me. Thanks in advance for any useful info. It's much appreciated.

I couldn't honestly tell ya. I'll bring it up, potentially could be an idea. I know that V6's are much easier to find than a 2.3T in these parts. I have yet to come across a 2.3T in my Mustang endeavours.

Swapping in a V6 would probably be a pain in the ass, considering the wiring and all that, and a turbo 2.3 would have the same horsepower level.

If 2.3 Turbos are that hard to find, why not swap in a very mild 302 with a 5 speed? If it was fuel injected you could get decent mileage with it.

What type of V6 would he like to put in it. I know a 3.8L, but from what year?
If its the newer ones from 1994 and up, they'd be easy to find, but hard to install. The V6's from the 80's would be hard to find. It would cost money to for all the custom work, but would cost less in the long run, but I'd just get a 302. The gas mileage isn't that bad.

If you drive it like you were afraid of it.

Let's just put it this way. I'm on a first name basis with quite a few gas station attendants

3.8 = eternal pain in the butt! 5.0 , 2.3T , unless you come by a SC 3.8, that would be the ONLY 3.8 worth concidering. 5.0's with a good tune up , a 5 speed and a weight-watchers foot will get as good as a 3.8 easily. Yes, 3.8's are very available at the junk yard...now lets sit and ponder why...

if you cant find a 2.3T for decent, piece one together, there is always people selling short blocks , turbos , computers, etc online.
