v6 to v8 swap....DIFFICULT??

well im considering a v6 roller to throw my 5oh drivetrain into.....how hard is the swap.....am i correct in saying that the tranny in teh v6 is not as beefed up as the gt???.......is the wiring goind to be like rediculous to wire the 5oh into the v6 body???

another question.....if i got a 96-98 v6 roller, is teh wiring and everything different from a 94-95 v6 roller?? im tending to think that all teh v6's from 94-98 are the same minus some body panels like the rear tailights.......thx guys :D

96+ Wiring is different in the interior... So your better off getting a 94-95 V6 Roller... Then all you need to change is the engine bay harnesses. I've done the swap so many times now i'm doing them in 5 hours out the door and that includes an 8.8 Rear End with 3.55's preinstalled. As long as you have everything and I mean everything there you can do it in a day with basic tools, jackstands, cherrypicker, and fuel line disconnect tool. Everyone told me it was a waste of time but my car is stealthy with a nice silent exhaust, stock rims w/ 275/50/15 MT ET Drag Radials on the back...

theres no explaination in your site about how you did the swap bro.....i have a 95 gt donor car with a 94k 5.0,t5, and 8.8 rear so i have all the parts i need.......i think i can handle dropping the motor in, and hooking up the throttle linkages and all the fuel lines and such, but i have no clue where to start with the wiring.....do you have a detailed explaination you could give me that might help me out with that??? thanks buddy :nice:

Look at www.stangparts.com in the "How to" articles. There is one called "Should Have Had a V8". There is some basic stuff on the swap there. The wiring should not really be that hard if you are able to take the donor car apart yourself (being able to see how stuff hooks-up when you take it out). I'll say it again, this swap was very worthwhile in my '94. I bought this car new in '94 and did not want to part with it but I still wanted a 5.0 car. So, I made my own!! I've got about 1k miles on it and I couldn't be happier. But, unlike Danny (SORSCODE), I've got dumped Flowmasters it is loud. I got tired of not being able to tell if the v6 was running or not; it was too quiet!! I did all the work myself and it took approx. 1 1/2 months of off and on working to do it. Good luck!!
Phil

I am currently and almost finished writing a step by step tutorial.. From pulling the V6 to dropping the V8 in.. And writing a tutorial on installing an 8.8... Like listed on my site take the harnesses listed that are needed from the donor car and remove them.. Most unscrew or unsnap... once your done removing them you will understand how they install. There is no splicing or nothing all plug and play and done.

Phil... Hows the car running? Haven't talked to you in forever. Want update on how everything is goin.

thanks a lot guys....the more and more i think about this, the more and more i think that this is a great idea.....im going to look into it some more, and get a few more opinions, but it sounds like its not too hard....my friend is an auto tech and just graduated tech school so he'd prbably be able to help me......

SORSCODE-when you finish those tutorials PLEASE pm me, or make a thread about it....thanks a lot man :nice:

Do It!!!!

I have done the swap in my 95 and we were done in two days. The auto or t5 will bolt up to the 5.0 block. You will need to swap the eec, eec to engine harness, eec to dash harness, 5.0 h pipe and cat backs, and a complete 5.0 motor from mass air to all front accessories, and the 5.0 AC lines from compressor to condensor and compressor to evaporator. Everthing else can stay!! If you have an auto make sure you get a trans to cannon plug harness because they are off by two pins. You can switch the pins yourself if you want to chase them down. You wouldn't believe the problems they can cause especially when a "reputable" performance and salvage shop in Pheonix AZ tells you that you don't need it and they are the same...sorry. Anywho dooooo the swap!! You don't have to worry about the rear or trans as long as the motor is close to stock! If you have any questions email me or pm me and I will try to help!! Later :spot:
