V6 vs GT

Is there a big difference, other than the V8 engine and slight cosmetic changes, between the v6 and GT? Does it ride the same, feel the same interior wise, etc? I love my V6, but have been contemplating maybe the end of next year trading it in for an 06 or order an 07 GT. I don't know if I would though. I don't know if I could part with my baby. Has anyone done this? Is the GT better?

Also, any idea how much the insurance would be for a 20 year old on a GT? Money will be a large factor in my decision.

P.S. Kinda a weird question, but is the GT longer? In pitures it sorta does from certain angles.

Insurance is going to be higher for the GT.

No the car isn't longer... It's just in your head.

I can't comment on the ride.

The Mustang get's a small facelift in 2008.

GT = more power and driving lights in the grill. The ride is about the same we test drove both before my wife bought her GT.

Naturally the insurance is going to be more, but besides the pro of having more power with the GT, you should get added bonuses like better brakes and suspension. At least I would think so. If you can afford it, I'd go for it, unless you love your car that much!

As for insurance, best way to check that is to ask your agent/company since it seems every company uses a different crystal ball in setting their rates. I remember way back in '99 when I was considering buying a Cobra 'vert, my agent said "Honey, honey, you don't want to get that car. It's $2.5K/year for that." I was paying about $900/year for my T-Bird at the time. Anyway, just check with your insurance company. This may, unfortunately, dictate what car you buy. It did for me, I bought a Miata and paid about the same as I did for the T-Bird. Don't get me wrong, I'm getting a GT 'vert when the time comes...insurance be damned! (But I can appreciate your situation.)

As for whether you should do it. Best way is to drive the GT. I know for me, the SOUND alone is going to be worth the extra bucks for a GT v. a V6. The extra power will just be the bonus!

Of course th GT is better but you may get used to the power of the GT and then may want to get the Cobra. Go for it if you can afford it but you may just want to Mod your car a little at a time and make a hobby out of it. It will be cheaper.

Well I've been thinking it over and actually may NOT even bother. To be honest I'd rather save for my dream car, a 2002 graphite Metallic Dodge Viper RT/10. Hell by the time I'm ready to get one they'll be the price of the GT. It all comes down to money. However, I'd really like to get a GT for a couple reasons:

A) I like it! I love the style, etc etc blah blah you know the rest!
B) Being a novice to manual transmissions going from two auto V6's, both my Stang and Olds cutlass are like this, to a manual car the has a V-10 and is capable of going 193 mph would not be wise for me.

I don't know. I know it's my decision, but any advice?

My two favorite cars are the Viper and the NEW Stang. Hell, I wanted a GT in the first place, but can I choose between them now?!

I have no interest in modding my cars. I like stock. I'd like the GT because from what I hear it is a better quality car and it looks damn good. Is it better quality?

Advice. Go spend $200 on some POS and learn how to use a clutch.
Take a high performance driving course. The car your dreaming of can and will get out from under you...

The differences between the V6 and GT can be summed up pretty easily: engine, fogs, brakes, sway bars. Beyond these types of things the cars are pretty much identical.

That being said I think Alec makes a good point. Get a beater to learn how to drive a manual. Find yourself a good performance driving school and learn everything you can. Save your cash and get the car you really want. You only live once... so go for your goals!!!

The 6's don't come with a limited slip diff, so you will have to spend 180 bucks to get the ford racing tlok for the 05's. The 05 dosent come with front or rear sway bars either, and yes...our 6 bangers are 7.5 rear ends...but the ford racing tlok makes them strong enough for intermediate mod's...even some heavy mods. They also don't come with the fogs, you would have to pay about $350 to get them after market.

The 06 V6 has a pony package, that includes GT wheels, small fogs (don't care of them myself, imo) and sway bars. If you are not into modding your car...then I would trade in your 6 for a GT. Used 05 GT's are already popping up at carmax and used car lots.

And yes, from what I hear the viper is a hard car to drive....known for fishtailing on the unexperienced driver. Take a driving class for sure!!!! I would rather have a heavily modded Mustang GT, has better weight distribution.

Oh, and about the GT looking longer...well technically...it is...barely...the front bumper comes out an extra inch.

I think I've solved it!!!!

Recently I've felt I haven't really been enjoying my car. This whole "I want to trade it" is proof. I think I've found out why! Every car I like: Mustangs, Vipers, Diablo's, Ford GT's etc all have one thing that mine doesn't that makes a car a sports car.... a manual Transmission! I wanted a manual to start, but couldn't find one with the options I liked with one. I was kinda disappointed, but felt "Hey it's a Stang and it will be easier to drive." The fact is I don't need the V8. I like my car just the way it is, but I've always wanted a manual. I drove a manual once. It was my freinds 3000gt with a V6 222hp. At first it was a pain in the ass, but once I got it I had the time of my life! I don't need a GT. I need a manny. That's what my car has been missing.

Am I right? Isn't it more fun to drive an manual on a Stang? Most of you on the boards seem to have Stangs with manuals. How do you like them?

Any insights into the Stang's manual tranny is appreciated.

Also, and most importantly. How much do you think it would cost if I had the dealer put one into my car? I wouldn't be doing it for a while anyway, but just wondering.

We have a 2003 SRT-10 on our lot. Its ONLY $64,000 . I'm happy with my GT. It's amazing. I drive v6s all day every other day at my job and they just aren't the same. They may have the same look to an extent but the GT just sticks it. It has a different stance and personality. Plus the exhaust is just amazing. I love rolling down the windows when I go past walls to hear it. If I were you I'd make sure I'm financially able and buy a GT....then in three or four years, buy a brand new SRT-10 or even an 02-04. Just think how comfortable you'd be in a Viper and how that'd be for a daily driver. Sorry but the Mustang wins in terms of daily driving. (Plus theres a back seat and better interior styling)

For someone my age a Viper would be 6000 a year. That is why the Viper is 5+ years away. No I think all I need it a manual in my V6.( Refer to my previous post.)

I enjoy being more involved with the driving experience which is why I chose a manual. I am part of the combination that propels the vehicle down the road rather than being just a passenger that steers and commands speed with my right foot.

To convert your car would cost you - probably - a few thousand dollars. It would be more cost effective to sell your car and buy a new one with the manual.

Oh yeah - that's another difference between the V6 and the GT cars. The transmission. The V6 gets the weaker (but still relatively stout) T5 transmission while the V8 gets the Tremec TR3560.

The manual WILL make a difference, but I doubt it will change your mind about wanting a GT. I have a manual V6 that I LOVE to drive but I still think about getting the GT. And if I had the GT, I would want to get the GT500 when it comes out. We always want what we don't have.... There are many reasons I went with the V6 over the GT and they have been rehashed so many places that it is not worth getting into here. However, I think that a manual transmission will NOT make your GT desires suddenly go away. IF you bought your V6 because that is truly what you wanted, then relax and admire the GT for what it is: a superior car. That being said, the fact that the GT is faster and more powerful does not make your car slower, uglier, or less responsive. Take the time to tweak your car a little with appearance and performance mods. For the extra $5-7K the GT would have cost you (depending upon where you live, what you wanted, etc.), you can make your V6 a truly original vehicle inside and out and give a STOCK GT a run for its money on the street. But it will never be a GT, and a stock GT can be modded to beat your modded V6, and as long as that doesn't bother you, you will be fine. Otherwise, you will always second-guess your decision, and no amount of mods will change that. Remember, there will ALWAYS be faster cars on the road. But there will ALWAYS be slower ones.... Just my 2 ducats...
