V8 guys with 4 banger 5 speeds, come in here please!

Going with a 4 banger 5 speed behind my 302 which is pretty much stock except for an air gap intake, 600cfm carb and better cam.

I'm wondering about the rear end; currently I have 3:73 gears and I'm worried it won't match too well with the 4 banger 5-speed gearing. What rear end are you guys using?

Also a few other questions regarding the swap:

- V8 clutch, pusher plate, etc... will fit correctly?
- 4 banger cable and quadrant will work?
- Got any links to wire this properly (neutral switch or whatever)

Also I'm going to machine a 4 speed housing to work with the 5 speed since I can't find anything else. Anyone ever do this before?

you do know you have to change the input shaft on a 4 cylinder T5 right?

not the input shaft, but only the bearing that goes into the engine

They wont take much abuse, the one in my old 87 wouldn't go into first or second when I was done with it.

the 4 cylinder input shaft is like half the size of the 5.0 one

The input shaft is a little longer too, it will fit but won't help the life of the transmission? I got the part number for using a different bearing for the input shaft to fit into the V8.

Oh well as I was telling my friend this morning, the 4 banger transmission will be a basis to put in a better 5 speed later on. Since a kit with the pedals, etc... even from a 4 banger runs pretty high here. I got this for next to nothing and if I were to put an automatic on the 4 banger, I'll have another daily driver

I agree I think the gears from the 5 speed will be crap with my 3:73's
