Vacume hose from valve cover to CAI, do i need it???

Im doing my LMAF and need to know what to do since it's going to be a custom CAI from Lowes LOL, can i just use a push in breather on the valve cover??? what does that hose do other than put oil in my intake??? what about the air intake temp sensor?? how do i move it to the # 5 runner? will a tune fix whatever problems that causes??? My intake is going to consist of 4" straight ABS pipe and a K&N but the tube is going to be very short so it looks like there's barely any room to attach the hose and sensor on it.
 
Scott's idea is a solution. The reason is that the small hose allows air back *into* the crankcase (a PCV valve is obviously a one-way valve). If that little hose isnt there, you can actually start sucking air through seals if the crankcase is under vacuum. This small hose also assists crankcase venting at WOT, but that doesnt really pertain (as an issue of much consideration) here.

So Scott's idea is to use a breather since it allows bi-directional air flow. If it was me, I might tap a bung on your new CAI and run a separator in the line. This would be a clean method and keep oily vapor from being vented (breather).

Why not keep the ACT in the air inlet tubing? Once again, that's what I'd do. For cars with sensors originally calibrated for an ACT in the inlet tubing, that's where I'd keep it. Going the other way (fox guys adapting a GT40 top end), then putting the ACT in the airbox/inlet works. That's the time I'd consider doing that.

One would either want a closed PCV system or to completely ditch that idea and to run breathers. Mixing breathers and PCV can lead to a lean condition.
 
I would still consider keeping that hose connected because I consider our engines to be a closed loop system. The air had to come from somewhere (i.e. intake), and even if it's blowby, the engine will eventually monitor it when it passes by the O2 sensors.
