Valve covers on backwards???

On My 88 GT i went to change the oil the other day and I realized that the Oil cap is on the passenger side of the car under the throttle linkage so its impossible to get the cap off without taking the braket that holds the cables on....Is it possible that someone could have put them on backwards? Cuz i know on my 95 V6 that its on the drivers side front

Um... that makes no sense at all..

unless you have a set of chrome covers designed for the carb'd engine.. the oil filler cap should be in the front pass side... there is no way to mount them upside down.. and if its on the wrong side it will be on the drivers side rear.

Hmmm.... The Oil filler cap is on the pass side rear...Its an EFI and the valve covers I think are just stock and say motorcraft on them, Plus they are RED if that helps any

stock EFI covers are cast alum, say nothing.. and are grey cast alum.

If yours are metal, stamped alum (square shaped) or plastic.. they are for another small block.

Stock valve covers have a filler tube on them. Find another stang and check em out.

Thanks for the Good help, but i just checked them out a while ago and they say POWERED BY FORD on them so these are probably for some other small block??and they dont have a filler tube just a cap.... And the one on the Drivers Side has the PCV in the front is that correct?? or does it not matter?

They are most likely for a carb setup or if they are aftermarket covers, they may have had to be drilled for an oil cap. For instance I have TFS covers and had to drill my own hole for the cap. Maybe the person drilled it and then realized the mistake when trying to put it on.

Your valve covers were intended for a carberated motor, not EFI,
The oil fill should be on the passenger front. PCV on an EFI is on the back of the Intake.
Someone bought the wrong covers and used them anyway

Could have any of that stuff being in the wrong location have effects on my Motor? Cuz ever since i bought this mustang It smokes pretty bad out of the H-pipe (no mufflers or tails)I think that the valve seals bad or rings are fried, But that was just a thought if any of things are in the wrong location maybe it could causeing the problem????

hmm..dunno, but either way get some new covers...because u need the connection from the TB to the oil fill tube, plus it just doesnt sound good.

The tube that connects from the oil filler neck, to the TB takes fumes from the motor and puts them back into the intake to be burnt off...

I have a set of carb valve covers, but im using them on my EFI motor anyways. You just need to block off the line that goes into the TB.

From what ive read that tube allows filtered air to enter the valve covres, the pcv would take fumes from the motor and put them into the inake.

Simply put, U have the wrong valve covers.
