do I need to change valve springs or anything when running a Trick Flow Stage 1 cam and Scorpion Rocker Arms? I believe the car has stock valve train on the gt40p heads and the guy put the cam and rockers on and I dropped a valve and the only thing that broke was the retainer...

any input is much appreciated!

thanks

1.6 or 1.7 RR? If you have the stock GT40 or P heads I would upgrade those springs to either a TFS or Alex's springs. Those heads came off trucks with a very mild cam- even a stock HO cam is too much IMO.

You dropped a valve and did not cause any damage to the head, piston, or cylinder? Did you pull the head to check? When you install the new springs and retainers, give each spring a rap with a rubber or plastic mallet to make sure the retainers are seated. Better to find out before you start it up.

They are 1.6. I haven't pulled the heads yet, my plan was if I could put stock springs back I would just do that, but now that I have to replace the everything, I will probably just wait and buy some assembled trick flow heads and hope everything else is okay when i finally take them off.

if the gt40's are fine, are they worth anything?

stock gt4o's? Maybe $100-$200.

They make new pistons every day, so why worry?

I hate to tell you that a dropped valve usually lends to things being not so ok. How long did the engine run like that? Lucky for you, they do make new pistons every day. I just wanted to keep things on the bright side

it ran for no longer then 3 seconds. I ain't to worried about it, i'll just bite it and buy a short block if the cylinder is jacked up and put a stroker in it if the piston is bad. there is always a bright side! but not for my wallet

Engine Suggestions on an engine rebuild. Stock cam/GT40Ps or aftermarket on both for a fun weekend driver?
