Very easy question about spark plug gapping?

Ok this is gonna sound stupid I know but bear with me. I have changed numerous plugs before and am about to put a new set in in the morning. As I am setting here about to gap my new plugs ( while drinking beer which may explaing the stupid question)I though of something . I have one of the gap gauges that is just round that starts out thin and gets thicker the further aound you go with all of the numbers and such. Anyway to achieve .054 do you A. Just slide it along until the leading edge of the plug is on the .054

B. Center the middle of the plug over the .054 or,

C. Slide it past the .o54 so that the trailing edge of the plug is aginst the .054

I know this sounds stupid but no one ever told me how to do it so just wondering what the correct way is????

I'd just try to get "B" on your list, but either way you do it, it won't be off that much.

Shape, put down the beer. im anal, but you are being upsurd. IIRC, there is actually a range for the gap. i always gap a little tight, in case my ignition is weak or im in the hospital for a long time and someone needs to drive my car, the gap will stay within spec for awhile. LOL.
i also like B. make sure you dont slide the ground strap along the gapper (option C), or else you will wear down the metal and it wont be an accurate .054 anymore (im kiddin). ill be waiting for your next thread on whether using an extension and universal joint will throw off the reading on your torque wrench when you torque the plugs in. (J/K.sorry man. im in a goofy mood. must be tired.

HA Yeah I know you are joking HISSIN50. I just woke up (a bit hung over) and read this thread again to many corona's for me last night. Anyway this is related to my thread of last week about my rough idle I finally gave up and had a friend at a shop check it and he came to the conclusion I had a wire breaking down. He said it definently sounded like a spark problem to him. I didn't really think it was but seeing as he works on cars everyday and I just dabble with them I am gonna give it a try with a full tune up this morning. Thanks
