Very noob-like question about brakes

Got an oil change recently and Ford did the multi-point inspection.

Rear brakes are down to 3-5mm or 4/32" - 7/32" (yellow)

Been getting some screeching from them. What would be the most logical path to take at this point, even if it involves upgrading to aftermarket. What kind of prices am I looking at?

Fronts are still good. Had the rotors cut back in december, I assume on just the fronts?

I am going to be upgrading to cobra front brakes in a few months.They cost 669.99 at AM. Pretty good deal.

Thanks, but the issue is rear brakes. May consider that in the future.

Do I need new rotors going off the info above?

Riceeatering95GT???

Waste of money upgrading the rears to Cobra, imo. It would be cheaper to just get some better discs with Hawk pads. If I remember correctly, the fronts do most of the stopping anyway.

They have DBA cross-drilled/slotted also but they're out of stock.
Willing to order elsewhere if the price is right on some better quality stuff.

Do you find the brakes lacking? If not, just get stock-style replacement pads. Otherwise you need to upgrade the fronts to really make a difference.

If the rotors are chewed up from grinding then replace those too or have 'em turned if there's enough material left.

That's calipers only. I think slayerripkdc was referring to the entire kit.

Agreed. Get a decent set from autozone for the rear. Front does most of the braking on the car.

The type of driving you do also determines what brakes you should get.
DD = stock

It's a DD with occasional trips to the drag strip.

I'll check with Autozone on some new pads. What about noise and brake dust? One of the appealing factors I liked about the Hawks. Don't really have TOO much of an issue with brake dust on the rear since, as stated above, most of the work is done up front.

I'll take a look at the rotors tomorrow. Think I could get those from Autozone as well if it came to it? Can I tell myself if they can be cut or do they need to be measured? If it's cheaper to cut them then I'd rather not replace the rears.

I do the same with my car. Strip on occasion. Get Autozone blanks for the rear and a decent set of pads. Not worth cutting rotors IMO with the price of blanks being so cheap.

The Wagners seem kinda common amongst the Auto Parts stores. Any word on them?

They have a lifetime warranty.

Really worth it to get nice pads for the rear when I can just get cheap ones from Autozone?

Lifetime warranty for brake is crap IMO. With DD and not much racing there is a very slight change that something will happen to them.

Just get a cheap blank for a rotor. Like $20 a piece. Turning them is probably about the same, maybe a little less.

I'd probably get a mid grade pad for the rear.

Sounds good. Bad idea to go to Ford for the labor? How much should it roughly cost to install rotors and pads?

What do you consider a mid-grade pad?

What about the Hawks?

Just called Ford and they want $90 per rotor and $80 for the pads so I'll pass on that.

They have these in stock for rotors. Good to go?

You should really learn how to change your own brakes. One of the simplest things to do next to an oil change.

Not seeing input from anyone else, but personally I but cheaper brakes in the rear than the front. It's all personal experience and preference.

I'll probably do it myself next weekend.

I ended up getting the Hawk Performance Ceramics for $75 shipped and a couple Wagner rotors for $62 shipped.
