Hi, I got a 65 mustang checking it over I found that the front fender and enter liner have been replaced.when the work was done they didn`t cut out and weld in the old VIN# any help would be appreciated.

Whatever you do DON'T GET THE DMV INVOLVED. They will be confused and God knows what will happen after that. Maybe get the car impounded.
Get a set of stamps off ebay (about $50) and stamp the number into the inner fender where it is supposed to be. Some people will protest the "legality" of this and tell you how you can go to jail and it is wrong etc., etc. IMO you have to look at the intent of the law versus the letter of the law. The intent of the law is to prevent VIN tampering and thus fraud and I don't see where any fraud is being attempted here. As for getting into trouble - if you don't tell the DMV then how will they ever find out? Even if they sent a cop to your house he is not going to know if that number was stamped by the factory or you. The odds are a LOT more likely that you will get into trouble if that number is not there.

I have to go with the stamp idea. You can't just go with the door tag, it has no legal standing and it says so right on the tag.
I'd also agree with the above DMV comments. I won't say they are dimwits, but anything off the routine can send them into spasms, and you will not like the results.
