Just got the BTM installed...took it for a drive around the block...the car wont idle, idles fine around 1000 RPM, stalls when the clutch is pushed in though...runs rich as hell...backfires at WOT...Makes real good power tho, 8 pounds of boost...

Combo is:

-Vortech V-2
-42# injectors
-80mm MAF calibrated for 42 # injectors
-255 lph fuel pump

Is there a way I can get it to lean out without a tune? Or at least idle... :(

if you have a fmu, ditch it. any reason you went with the 42 lb ers? 30's or even 24's would have been plenty for that combo. on my combo 30's are running real rich.

if you have a fuel pressure regulator, turn the pressure down.

other than that get that thing tuned, you wont believe the power that you find in a tune.

with stock heads, even with the S/C, 42's are too much..

I run rich with 36's and stock heads.

I just passed 13.5:1 AFR at 5500 RPM with 30's and No FMU...I was rich as hell with 30's AND FMU...

Let's get that sucka tuned now and get 'er running!!

13.5 air/fuel on a boosted car is to high. Thats alright for an n/a motor. Boosted you should try to stay below 12.5

Thanks guys...theres no FMU...everybody I asked told me to run 42s with it so I wouldnt have to worry about the FMU because I didnt want to run one. It still has the stock fuel pressure regulator also... :( I guess a tune it is... :(

yea why the hell did everyone reassure me that 42's were perfect, its too late now they are in and i already ordered the mafs caled for 42's....Grady assured me that they werent too big because i thought they were out of my leauge. its going to get tuned so it should be ok right?

I dont think it will be a "problem"...if it is indeed getting a good tune. It may not be the "perfect" setup, but it should work.. Besides, youre gonna wanna get new heads anyway...GUARANTEED!!! :D

Right...that's why if you read, it says we then tried it with the FMU, because the AFR was a bit high...we thought we could manage it on 30's since I had stock heads... for my particular setup, 36's are the most ideal.

On my original install of the S-Trim, I ran your same combo. You need to get your fp to about 45 and timing to 10*. The injectors will load up so if you don't get it to start on the first key turn or it stalls. You'll have to pump the gas pedal like an old carb car while turning the key.
After I bought the PMS I was able to cut back start up fuel by 28% and it cranks fine. It sucked though whenever it stalled though.
Try ajusting your idle screw to get it to idle.
So you'll need to get another FPR.

Sweet, thanks dude...I figured an adjustable fuel pressure regulator would be needed...I just want it to be able to idle so I can drive it, then I can figure out if there are any other problems...sucks man.. :(

42's are notorious for having Idle issues. Look on the Tweecer support forum about 42's and you'll see lots of discussions....
Seems they are big enough to dump TOO much fuel in at the minimum Pulsewidth that is programmed in the EEC. (.3MS, if I recall) Most Tweecer users adjust that down to .001, to regain some control at idle. The only way to change this is with a "TUNE". Get a Tweecer, because you can ditch the BTM as well, and just program in the timing you want, too.

I had no problems with my S-Trim when my motor was all stock and put in 36's. I put heads, intake, cam, etc on, and bumped up to 42's. Took forever to get the idle figured out.

Pumping the gas pedal like an "old Carb" car will work, apparantly, but the idea is to just mash the pedal and hold it when you are having difficulty starting it because it loaded up and stalled. Holding the pedal down (WOT at cranking speed) tells the computer to shut off the injectors....

Oh, the Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator. You'll need one that is "Boost sensitive." I recomend the Kirban, because that is what I have and it's held up well for 4 years. There are other good brands, but I have no first hand knowledge of those. This increases your fuel pressure under boost conditions to compensate for the intake system being under pressure. The idea is that if your fuel pressure is set to 39 lbs, and you are making 10 lbs of boost, then the boost effectively reduces your fuel pressure to 29 lbs. This can cause a lean condition when you LEAST need it. Less pressure means less fuel.

Increasing the Fuel pressure will INJECT more fuel. I wouldn't recommend doing this to fix a rich condition at idle. You already have to much fuel. More rail pressure means more fuel...
