VT N/A cams...

I don't know for sure about Ron's direct prices, but usually the 2nd party company can usually sell the heads cheaper than the company who actually does the heads, because they buy them in "bulk" and they get a substantial cost break. It's usually the same with nitrous kit and supercharger dealers as well.
 
I know Fox Lake used to do VT's heads. I have heard that this is no longer the case though.

Now onto degreeing cams. Any and all aftermarket cams should be degreed in regardless of what stage it is. Improper installation is 100% of the time the cause of PTV, not the cams themselves. People have had PTV with improperly installed VT stg 1 N/A cams.

The problem with not degreeing the cams is the cam gear. Ford did not have a tight tolerance on these. I have seen them vary upto 6 degrees either way( +- ) and have heard of them being worse than that. Degreeing the cams in, guarantees proper installation and the best performance numbers possible.

Well said, and I have to agree. You can "get away" with not degreeing smaller Stage 1's, but I like to degree every cam no matter what because of the combination of stacked tolerances.

This is also the reason that sometimes you will see stock head guys with Stage 2 cams make a little more power than stock head guys with Stage 1's. If the guys with Stage 1's degreed their cams, they would make more every time.
 
I have a question... can I get a cam that'll give me good gains now and still help when I get my blower (a year or so away). Seemed like one guy earlier in the thread was running a blower with stage 1 NA cams...?

Agreed to a point. Like Laser said, you can get away with it on the VT stg 1 cams if you want.

And the PERSON (one person) that had PTV with the VT stg 1 cams jumped a tooth on one of the cam gears. He claimed he did it correctly at first and then later everyone found out he somehow jumped a tooth durring install after he tore it back down LOL. He didnt keep the chain tight durring install and if I recall correctly he didnt mark the cam gear and chain with whiteout before he started...thus not knowing when it jumped a tooth.

Its not the cams fault...faulty install. A risk you should be well aware of before you attempt it...IF you decide not to degree the cams. Dont screw up and you will be fine :D .

But like I have said before...thats just an option for those that are capable (its not recommended) and ONLY want to do cams if its an easy install (just removing the valve covers)...but I also HIGHLY recommend degreeing the cams if you can.
Car will run better and you will be 100% sure you got everything correct :nice:
 
VT sate II N/A with comp valve springs.
287 hp @ 316 ft-lbs. The last time out to the dyno to date.
No head work,no headers,stock ported upper plenum with spacer,stock throttle body polished,K&N drop in,and a SCT tune.So with some added parts like headers,ported Bullitt intake,that are sitting in my closet,i'm hoping to be close to 300hp!!!????Cross my fingers LOL!!
Runs 13.1 @ 106/107 mph on eibach sportline springs,4.10's and drag radials.And that is shifting at 6200 rpm.
6400 rpm plus :eek: ???????? :shrug:
