So i have this 82GLX 5.0 and i need to get it inspected before i can get the car in my name and sell it..my question is what do they check for? emissions? VIN's? Battery security? seat belts? etc.. Thanks:SNSign:
im pretty sure 82 is exempt from emissions testing due to age.

because i bought it from a wrecking yard....I'd like to know what mechanical things they check for, as well as the VIN on the motor? the motor is not original to the car unfortunately, hope they dont find out
i had to go through that a couple of years ago no biggie when i went through they just checked my vin and door tag and did a real quick walk around they didnt look under the hood or under the car i think the just want to check the natinal database.
you dont have to worry about emmisons. dont worry its a simple process.its just waiting for the appointment when i had to do it it was a 2 month wait.
When I did one several years ago, it was a basic safety equipment check and VIN check for stolen. The trooper made me turn on all the lights, made sure the brake lights worked and honked the horn. He filled out a form and sent me off to the DMV.
I just did this last week. Had to do an out of state inspection so I can get the car registered at my home state, Ohio... Like others have already said, its a simple process. Just went to the office and I was the only one there. The guy working there talked my ear off about their '80s style Mustang police cars but other than that, was a quick trip. They checked the VIN on the dash board. Was gonna check for other VINs but when the previous owner repainted the car, he took off all the VIN plates everywhere else. But he missed one, in between the grill and the radiator is a stamped piece of metal with a code on it that matches your VIN. So I was good to go. He didn't care about the VIN on the engine and even spoke that most Mustangs our age don't even have the original motors in them. So there shouldn't be any worry about that for yours. I didnt have to honk my horn or do anything else but dazzle him with Mustang talk and I walked right out of there. So, I couldnt tell you if they are supposed to check anything else or not. If he would have wanted me to honk my horn, I would have failed cause it doesnt work. So I'm not sure about what else they test for. Good Luck!
