I don't know how good the Duplicolor system is, (I used the spray bombs under mine) But I also bought the entire Gallon w/ the seperate siphon feed gun for another project (Actual Ranger bedliner project) but it was cheap enough,.......like 150.00
Thanks for the tip Mike. I'll check the Duplicolor stuff out. That's about what the Raptor liner will cost me after I buy the extra reducer. How did the bedliner hold up for you?
The engine bay will be BC/CC. And yes, there will be a mask line on the bottom end of the firewell. The liner will be limited to just the underside of the car and the rear wheel wells. The front inner fender areas will probably be BC/CC also because the painter is just going to shoot everything at once.

It's actually quite resilient. You can scratch it if you have the mind to do so,..but you have to be a little determined to get the job done.
The spray bombs don't have the capacity to get very far, and there is the propellant taking up space in the can, so I dont have the film thickness that I would've had, had I had (whew!
) the bare undercarriage that you have and that kit. I had an engine and trans in place when I got the epiphany to use that stuff under the floor. The only thing you need to watch is where you have interference fit brackets (like my upper and lower CA's) once coated,...that junk don't like to fit back in the same space it came out of.

But yea, my painter is a very capable guy and I definitely trust him and his work. He has done a lot of work for me in the past and has done plenty of show cars and classics. He knows what I am expecting as an end result, and I'm confident he will deliver. I could probably manage the body work myself and just get him a car to shoot, but I know I would constantly wonder if I prepped and applied everything right. I tend to second guess myself with things like that, so in an effort to sleep better at night, I'm just going to let him do it soup to nuts.

It's funny you mention that, because I was thinking about masking the LCA mounts where the IRS subframe bolts in. It was already so damn tight when I mocked it up, there was no way its going to fit with a layer of bedliner in there. I'll be sure to mask that area up as well as the crossmember mounts.
Decided to take some cell phone pictures just to update on progress. Have about 95% of the junk underneath all removed. Just need to go over the hard to reach areas by hand because I couldn't get the wire wheel or scraper in some areas. Coming along though!

Once I get the rest of the little nooks and crannies (and wheel wells), I'll wash everything down with a solvent and then hit it with a metal prep and she will be ready for primer, paint, and then eventually bedliner.
And Mike, the mess from all this is contained nicely underneath that tarp. Can't have any sticky undercoating getting all over my nice, clean epoxy floor.

OK,....Why are you gonna paint it,.... Then top coat that w/ bedliner? Aren't you just gonna prime it THEN topcoat it w/ bedliner?
Only because I already have a bunch of cans of chassis paint, so I'm gonna shoot a light coat over the primer. It wasn't my original intent to use the bedliner so I bought enough paint for a couple coats of satin Black on the bottom and interior. Might as well use it up!

Thanks doods. The underside has been a stupid amount of work. The worst part is that nobody is ever going to see it except for the guy at the shop that inspects the car every year. I'm not going to be THAT guy at a show with mirrors on my underside to show off how clean my underwear is. However, after all the work I'll have under this thing, it's tempting!

This gives me a BRILLIANT idea!
You could hard wire and cleverly conceal, a one-off, LED, under-glow kit!!!! Tiny little holes built into the frame rails that nobody would ever know was there till you flipped the switch.

great work as normal. I don't know why you need to primer though just go straight to metal with it already prepped it would be cake.
That would be nice, but the bedliner can't be applied to bare metal according to the spec sheet. It needs a base coat first. Like Mike mentioned, the topcoat of chassis paint over the primer will be overkill, but I'm going to use up what I have. I also bought some internal chassis coating from Eastwood to shoot the inside of the framerails. Comes with a handy little extension tube that goes inside the framerails and has a special nozzle that shoots paint at 360 degrees out the end. Rust won't have a chance on this car to even think about showing its face on this car anymore!
