Want to buy a orbital polisher...what kind is best?

What kind is good? What kind should I stay away from? What should I look for when buying? Iv heard that if you get the wrong one it can burn up/eat thru your paint.

Whats a good brand to look at?

Simoniz any good?

The porter cable is the best, but its expensive. I have a 10" craftsman buffer, cheap but it does the job I use it for. Mostly the ones that burn the paint are rotary buffers and polishers. I've used a couple things from simoniz mostly because they were marked down close to nothing. They broke the first day.

If you look at some tool supply sites, you might be able to find it cheaper. It is random orbital which makes it difficult to burn your paint. There are kits for polishing pads that velcro on which makes cleaning the pads pretty easy too.

great I was thinkin simionz, so u think its worth it for the Porter Cable? I dont really see how they are any diffrent?

And the Porter is a 4" right, there is a cordless Simionz same style as that the 4"...

What do you guys think? Are there any other good ones that arnt quite as pricey as the Porter Cable?

Also with that porter cable it comes with that one pad, do you put cloth over-top of that or just use that then when done wash it? or what? I dont want to have to drop $150 then another $50+ on pads etc. Help me out!

On the porter cable the pads are attached with velcro, so you can switch them instead of using a bonnet.

How long does it take to do the car with the Porter Cable unit?

Also, what routine do you guys go by when you break out the polisher? Can you list the steps in order? I.E. Claybar, polisher, wax, etc.

I personally use a Snap-On orbital buffer, very expensive though. I use it at the body shop every day for about 4 years now. I also have a DeWalt orbital, works good, but not as quiet and smooth as the Snap-On. I am interested in trying out the Porter Cable to compare.

How long it takes really depends on how anal you are. It takes me about 4 hours to do mine with the Porter Cable unit. And that's only doing two steps (polish/wax). If I wanted to I could probably do it in les than 2 hours tho.
