NAV appeals to me because I might take the car out for shows that I have no idea how to get to. Plus it looks cool when the car starts up and the FORD logo displays on the screen.

Downside....cost

i have a shaker 500 radio that i was going to use but i am saving now for a future project you know i am doing the ford nav radio in my set up .mine is going to light up with the cobra emblem though to go with the rest of my cobra theme.

IPS- I noticed in the pic you posted that you have a square/holes cut in your A pillar from the gauge pod. I don't know how recent that pic is, but I have a clean OEM black A pillar you can have if you need it. Just throwing it out there!

Yup, that's from when i had the a-pillar gauges up there. Haven't decided yet if they are going back. If they do, i'll prob buy the 3-gauge entire pillar. If i stick them under the radio, then i'll need a new clean stock pillar

I put a lot of work into going back to a stock radio in my '86, so don't feel like you're the only crazy one. I'd rather bear the terrible sound quality of the old radio than have a ricey looking aftermarket unit in there any day.

Of course, the retro look of the 4-eye interior clashes much more with new radios than what the areo interiors do...

Ok, bringing this back up.

Some of you might have seen my attempt to put the Mach 460 6-disk in my car. Radio looked good, but I couldn't get it to work without a lot of white noise.

Gonna go back to stock, but my stock radio is a 4-speaker basic system.

So, I purchased a 1993 80-watt amplifier and wiring. Ive got 6 Boston acoustic speakers (already had them from when I had a good system in the car) but I'm gonna utilize the factory wiring and pull all my aftermarket speaker wiring out (doesn't look clean to me)

The 1993 amp works only allows the 1993 newer radios to work in the car, so I need a newer tape deck or cd player. Was there an equalizer available in 1993 for the tape/cd? Anyone got pics?

I don't care what the sound is like...just want a nice clean stock look...but didn't want to toss in the 80s style radio and only run 4 speakers

Im fairly certain that the EQ was an option with the premium sound. I think that it was a 6 speaker system also. good luck finding one though, ive not seen one in years.
For what its worth, when i did the carpet in my vert i pulled the amp out from behind the radio and mine is the six speaker setup.

I have the factory radio in place any right under it is the controller for a 10 disc changer in the back.
the part that sits right under the stock radio is an excellent match it looks factory it even lights up the same green as the radio and the rest of the dash, If you would like I can get some better pictures for you just let me know Lee

Why not run all new speaker wire? Its not that hard to do, and it will make a ton of difference in sound quality.

That place right under the stock radio is the controler for a 10 disc changer thats in the back.
It matches so good that most pepole just thank it is factory it even lights up the right shaid of green

I found a way to up grade the ford sound system to use the amp and stuff very easy,

up grading the fox raido system to where your running a factory amp is not that hard at all.
I did it took about 1 hour and it was working--had to use a radio made for the amp but it was easy.

Well actually, i think i'm already doing the same.


I already had a 1988 premium amp (football style behind the radio), but that amp uses the older M100 style radio that was either AM/FM or AM/FM/Tape setup...plus it looked old.

However, after staring at wiring and plugs and diagrams, i think the older wiring is compatible with the 1993 amp wiring that plugs into the body radio harness, goes to the under seat amp, and then has the connections for the newer P100 style radios at the head unit. I want to see if i can fab a mount to put the amp behind the radio where the football amp goes...but it might be too big.

There are more options for radios with the P100...and the head unit can usually operate a changer or slave cd setup.

AFAIK, there are 3 options for premium radios that will plug and play with the 1993 OEM Amp and wiring once retrofitted in my car.

The 94-98 Mustang setup uses the same plug. Just need to make sure you have the jumper harness from head unit to slave CD

From what i've read, there are also other Ford OEM radios that use the P100 style amp and wiring...such as this one. But i don't think I want to use that.

SO just trying to figure out which radio style i want to use. I think i read the single CD player setup is skip-happy, and the 94-98 style has bettwe anti-skip, so i might go for that. Also, the premium tape player for the Mustang has the same plug as the SN95 style setup, which if i'm correct will allow me to put in a CD-changer from a 90's minivan and directly plug it in. Everything OEM plug and play.

Nobody really ever explores these options because who the hell keeps a stock radio in a Fox?? I didn't. But know, i think we'll start to see these radios re-appearing in Mustangs again

Just has more to do with not wanting aftermarket wiring snaking everywhere. I know it will be out of sight, but i love keeping wiring as stock as possible.

As of right now, the doors and rear speakers are wired with speaker wire...so i could leave that alone.

Here's a question. Anyone have pics of how the 1993 amp is mounted under the seat and how the wiring runs? I assume it goes under the carpet right?
