Wanting to add Shelby decklid + endcaps to my '68 Coupe - questions

I'm taking my car into the shop today to get a quote on bodywork and paint. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, but I'm leaning towards getting the work done and leaving the car in primer for now to keep my initial costs down. I can get it sprayed when I get the cash.

The plan is to speak with the owner of the shop to see what exactly I can do to cut the costs on the bodywork/primer. I am planning on taking off all trim, etc, and even sanding it to bare metal if need be.

My new plan is to start figuring out the best way to add the Shelby decklid and endcaps to my coupe.

Who makes the best versions of these?
How much will they run me?
Will there be bodywork costs to make them "fit"?

I'm not doing the scoops because I like the look of my 68 without them.

If it were me, I'd keep an eye on ebay and look for a California Special trunk and end caps. I've seen them on there before for a lot less than the stuff being sold new. Then you'll know it fits right on without paying someone $70 an hour to fit the parts.

agree with zookeeper if you can get the original items you will be FAR ahead. On our 65, we used the Maire racing decklid and end caps with the spoiler. when bolted up, the gap on one side was good, but on the driver side it was almost 1/2". I had to actually widen the unit ~ 1/4". I did a thread on it if you want to see what had to be done. In addition, there were many large voids under the gel coat.

Same here. I bought Branda (supposedly the best) trunk, end caps and taillight panel and spent many, many, many hours getting it right. Not one part was useable as shipped, the end caps and taillight panel weren't even close.

Anytime you buy fiberglass parts be ready for a lot of work to line them up. I bonded mine on to give it that smooth look. Also cut off the drip rails and welded about an 1 1/4" to the flare.

I bought the vacuum formed branda decklid and the terrible endcaps (but they warned me about the caps) The lid fit great and you can check out the build/info on my cardomain site. The final pics are on the last page. Let me know.
