Was YOUR supercharger worth it?

Like many others on here, I'm wanting to get a supercharger for my 05. My question to those of you who have already gone this route, do you feel it was worth it in the end? For teh setup that I want, I'm looking at 6K. So to you, was it worth the money and time when it all comes down to it? I race the car several times a year, drive it only when its nice out, and travel about 40 miles each day i do drive it, which are all freeway miles. I don't go out hunting down Vettes, Camaros, and Neons (lol), but I still feel that I would enjoy the forced induction for when it does come time to "use" the car.

So if you could go back and do it all over againm would you? I'm just trying to see how those of you who have already done this feel now that its done. Thank you for your time and input!

Vortech HO. Worth every penny just because 300hp isn't that much these days and 462 is a good resource to fall back on. It also gets better gas mileage when driven normally. For overtaking, it's essential here in the UK where the roads are a little more twisty.

I love the extra boost I get from mine. It's nice and smooth and comes on seemlessly. Great for freeway passing or the occasional stop light kill. ;)

All that and I am not tuned for the listed power my unit can do!

Thanks for the input so far guys. I love the thought of having a SC car, just wanna see how those of you feel now that you've already done it.....part of that whole if i know then what I know now thing. So far the Saleen kit is looking like my choice in poweradders. And problems with the prochargers and vortech making good power at low RPMs? (2000-400 range?)

Being as I didnt pay for mine, yes I think it was worth it. If I were buying one I'd probably look into some alternative or possibly purchasing my current setup with a smaller pulley.

YES!!!

I have a 2005 Gt w/ a Saleen Supercharger, 3.6 pulley, 3.73 gears, Steeda CAI, and JDM tune..

I haven't met another stang in Chicago that can touch me...

Cool!

Im impressed sir that you live in the UK and own a supercharged Mustang GT. I was in Scotland a couple years ago, and didnt see any American cars at all. I would love to see the looks on peoples faces over there when your out in the GT.

Twisty roads? Thats all there is in Scotland. Are there places there where you are that allow you to open her up?

All the best. Warlok

Discofan, have you ever had the car dyno'd? I'm looking at almost the same setup, except for the 3.4 pulley. Just curious as to how much more power teh smaller pulleys add compared to what comes stock with it.

Jizabel, nice numbers! gas mileage is very impressive as well. Is teh morot on the stock internals?

my car fricken flys with the vortech v2-sq with the aftercooler the heat concerns are gone. the car with its stock pulley will get me well over 500hp at the wheels with the next size smaller pulley and the forged internals i will be close or at 600 rwhp. i love it and would do it 100 times over. plus its so quiet no one knows its there

Stock pulley, stock internals (for now):D

Dear Arangeastang,

Since I have an automatic tranny, I've told that I lose alot of HP...

My friend has the same setup as I do w/a 5SPD and he has dynoed at 460 RWHP...

My numbers are not nearly as impressive... I dynoed at 410RWHP w/ my setup...

If I go to the 3.4 pulley and add a GT500 fuel pump, I'm sure I could get 450-470RWHP out of it...

And then, it's a matter of tires and suspension upgrades to put those numbers on the street and not "up in smoke"...

thank you for your input! I have an auto tranny as well, thus why I 've been thinking about going with the 3.4 pulley. 410HP is a good save number though!

Seems like alot of people really like their vortech kits. Seems like they are making good power as well! Decisions-decisions-decisions!!!

Even though the centrifical superchargers cost less, most of my driving and competing comes at lower speeds...

Around the city and maybe the occassional track visit will still have me operating in the 0 to 100 MPH range...

With the said, the root style blower met me needs...

I had the saleen supercharger installed by a Ford SVT dealer that warrantied their work...

Love the performance!!!

Since I drive the 2005 GT w/automatic, any power charge I can get right out of the box will help me more than the power charge coming on at 75 MPH...

Get the root style, Kenny Bell, Whipple, Saleen, etc are the best choices!!!!!!

I'm not real sure what your trying to say here, but it looks like your saying that us Vortech guys don't get any power till 75 mph??? If thats the case I beg to differ. I make boost at 2200 rpms to 6300 rpm, With that being said, I see a "power-charge" way before 75mph. Don't get me wrong any Eaton style "twin-screw" is building boost from the hole especially torque. I've went of against 03-04 Cobras
with about same dyno #'s , and the Et's are pretty much a driver's race.
5sp trannies may be a benefit for centrifical blowers, but i imagine a stall converter would be the ticket for this application.

All in all, I think he'd be happy with both types of blowers, it's just what your wallet will allow.

Hi Warlok,

The 2005 Mustang is one of the more popular American cars here in the Uk and there are several importers. We have our own Mustang Owners Club (www.mocgb.net) and there are now quite a few supercharged Mustangs in varying guises. There are several Saleens, several Roush and a lot of Vortech equipped cars. I think more people are taking the plunge into muscale cars because the 2005 Mustang looks so damn good but those who do buy seem more willing to take the plunge and buy the blower. Like anything, the more people do it, the more people are confident to do the same. It helped that two of the motoring mags over here bought Mustangs and ran them on their fleet and were favourably impressed by them.

The Mustang attracts a lot of attention - you get people taking photographs everywhere you go. They're still fairly rare but there are 3 others local to me. Mine gets a little less attention as most cars here have the racing stripes and I haven't fitted them as I don't trust the longevity of them. I fancy a black bonnet but will wait a while before I worry about paint.

I live in Wales so we have similar scenery to Scotland and there are plenty of roads round here for exercising the car. We also have monthly runs with other performance cars and many are surprised by how well the Mustang goes and handles. Here's a pic from a recent one:

My friend with the TVR was somewhat vexed when the Mustang blew his Griffith 500 away!

There are a few Mustangs in Scotland too, 2 at least that I know of but Scotland's a big place.

It can only be a good thing though. The Mustang has started a charge and made a great impression. Reaction to the Camaro and Challenger over here is very positive and some are drooling to get their hands on them. The Corvette and Z06 are doing well too and again are being uprated and getting positive reviews. I just wish we didn't have to pay 10% import duty and 17.5% VAT on top of the US prices though....oh and of course we don't get any warranty at all.

Thank you very much
