Wash up the engine/bay?

How do u properly do this, last time i did it i followed some instructions online but ended up fking up the coils on the spark plugs leading it to missfire.

Either those instructions sucked or you didn't follow them. Take it to a pro if you want it done right and want to place blame on someone if you have problems afterward.

How did you go about doing it? Usually just not spraying water directly into any of the electrical problems avoids the problems. My engine is currently filthy and I will be cleaning it in the morning.

i always just use simple green an old rag and a hose.

Apply some engine cleaner and scrub, then stand 3-5 feet away and spray the engine down.

This is pretty much how I have done mine, I leave the car running to help the water evaporate quicker and have a fan blowing on the motor.

Simple Green in a spray bottle and a nylon brush works great. Be careful of bare aluminum with the Simple Green though, because it will stain it if left on there. I would do the rinse with the engine running and just steer clear of as many of the electrical connections as possible.
