we had some VERY hard rain the past two weeks. after the storms the water in my house has a light yellow tint to it and it has a smell. we have well water and i have been told that i should wait b/c the smell/color will go away but it has been a week now and nothing has changed. has anyone else had this problem and what can i do to test/fix it?

sounds like your well got contaminated during the rain. it may be sewage. heavy rain could have caused the sewers to overflow and sewage could have made it's way into your well.

so you guys dont think it need any type of water filter system? how would i go about shocking it?? just dump the same shock stuff you use in pools into my water?
is there any way to test for what is wrong? i work beside a lowes so i can pick up a kit from them tomorrow.

Shock chlorination is a process used in many swimming pools, water wells, springs, and other water sources to reduce the bacterial and algal residue in the water. Shock chlorination is performed by mixing a large amount Sodium hypochlorite, which can be in the form of a powder or a liquid such as chlorine bleach, into the water. Water that is being shock chlorinated should not be swam in or drunk until the sodium hypochlorite count in the water goes down to three ppm or less. Never mix commercial sodium hypochlorite and commercial calcium hypochlorite. The result may end in an explosion.

it tells me what it is but not how to do it. or how to test the PPM so i know when it is safe to drink
