I could use a little help here. I am putting a 5.0 motor out of a 95 in my 91GT. I have the block only for the 95 with the stock balancer, water pump, and timing chain cover. I know that the there is some difference in the water pump and timing chain cover between the two years. The problem is that I just purchased a high-flow counterclockwise water pump from Summit and I want to put it on the 95. Correct me if I am wrong but can I reuse the stock timing chain cover from the 91 to make it work on the 95? The other question I have is what harmonic balancer should I use, the 95 or the 91? The 95 motor has been sitting for a few years now and I don’t know if this will have any effect on it. Thanks for any input.

I am pretty sure the balancers are the same too. I guess I need to check if there is any visible damage to the one on the 95 and then decide on which one is in better shape.

If anybody else has some input on swapping the timing chain covers please let me know. I’m hoping the swap will allow me too use the new Water Pump I ordered. Its Summit part number #SUM-313003 for 1986-1993 302’s. Thanks.

The timing covers will swap between the 2 years.

You will need to swap the cover from your 91 to use a 91 style water pump.

What crank/rotating assembly are you using, use the balancer that went with it.

Thanks Rick91GT,

I read somewhere that the 94/95 entire accessory package sits farther back than 87-93 mustangs. I just wanted to make sure that the timing cover was interchangeable and would correct this problem. I am also hoping that the balancer and crank pulleys are the same. I would rather order an older timing chain cover from 50resto or something than to strip parts off of my 91. It’s still together and I am hoping to build the 95 up first over the winter before I pull the motor from the 91. The more parts (crank pulley and balancer) that I can use from the 95 the better off I will be.

So here is what I will do. I will order a timing chain cover for 87-93 models and install it with an 87-93 counterclockwise water pump. I will reuse the 95 crank pulley and balancer. This should hopefully correct the alignment problems with the 91 accessory package. Anybody see any potential problems doing this?

The difference in the crank pulley is night and day, the 95 pulley is nearly flat against the balancer, the 91 pulley will stick out from the balancer over 1.5"
