Water Temp Gauge Sending unit

I asked this question in 4.6 talk, but nobody answered it. Maybe someone can help me in tech. Where would be the easiest location to install a water temp gauge sending unit on a 1999 GT if I want to keep the original stock sending unit unit feeding the dummy gauge in the dash? I am a novice at this and don't want to start removing fuel rails and drilling and tapping holes; I'm not ready for that yet. Please help.

it is pretty easy to use a tap and make a spot on the rear of the water neck that the sending unit will fit in. I had never tapped anything well there a keg once, and well anyway it was a piece of cake. then just run the sening wire any way you would like.

oh btw i ended up using a 3/8" tap on the water neck. I actually bought a new water neck just in case I screwed up the stock one when i tapped it for the sending unit. but i didnt need it.

I would second drilling and tapping the t-stat housing. It's very simple, and you can get a decent tap and die set fairly cheap at places like Harbor Freight and other auto parts stores.

I'd recommend removing the t-stat housing while you're doing the work on it.

Definently take it off put in viice and then tap it.

There is a plug underneath the engine on the drivers side. It's right on the plug, shaped like an allen wrench. You could use that and you wouldn't have to drill into your T-stat housing.

The problem with installing the SU in the block is the temp there are hotter than anywere else and you will probably see readings in the 220-230 range, I know from experience.

I bought a little fitting that just went inline with one of my hoses that had the tap already in it. I would take a pic for you but my Stang is in storage for the winter.
