Weight of 69 coupe?

I'm building a rotisserie for my 69 Mustang, and I need to know the weight of the car without any parts. I plan on taking EVERYTHING off, except sheet metal. I don't want to build in too light, but I can get some steel pretty cheap if it's suitable.

If anyone happens to have weighed one sttripped down, it would be veyr helpful!

well a complete 69 coupe will weigh in about 3400 lbs, minus about 900 -1000 lbs for engine and tranny, then the rearend weighs about 150-200 lbs, front setas weigh about 65-75 lbs each rear seat probably weighs about 45-50 lbs for both halves, probably another 100-150 lbs of glass, bumpers weigh about 20 lbs each, front suspension and brakes weigh probably another 100-150 lbs, then you have carpet, dash, wiring steering column, sound deadener interior panels, headliner, exterior and interior trim pieces and all that good stuff will probably be easily another 250 lbs worth of stuff. with all that stuff gone i come up with about 1685 lbs using the lowest estimated weights, but i would think totally disassembled the car will probably weigh in around 1500 lbs or a little less. sorry i can't help you with exact weights my car is mostly disassembled and in the body shop but it has the complete engine and drivetrain and stuff in it. anyway hope that will help you some

Thanks, I came up pretty close to that too and figured I'd try to build around a 2000 limit for safety, figuring that most products also have a safety factor. Add using safely to that and I think that should be pretty good.

Also, if you have any pictures of your car, I'd like to see them. I'm tryinf to go with a slightly modified look for mine, considering that it's a hardtop and def. not a collectors item. It may be difficult to make it look a little "tougher", but I htink it can be done. There aren't too many Coupes out there to look at. Seems most people would rather show of there Sportroofs!

sorry no pics ye. but i can give you a mental image to look at. picture a 69 coupe. mine is a factory gt so it has the hood scoop, hood pins flip open gt gas cap and will eventually have a set of the factory style argent painted gt wheels in 15x7 and 15x8 wearing bfg's 235/60 in front and 295/50 in the rear. it will be acapulco blue with a black vinyl top mach 1/boss 302 style hood blackout, boss 302 style headlight blackout and taillight panel blackout, black front spoiler and black gt stripes. it will be emblem free but not completely shaved. it is going to have 69 shelby convertible side scoops and i will eventually add the shelby vert decklid with spoiler and the end caps that match. stance will be lower than stock by about 2 1/2-3" in the front and about 1/2-1" higher in the back to give it a slight rake (trans am boss style rake and stance is what i'm going for) interior is stock black deluxe except for 86 gt buckets that will be covered to match the deluxe interior, but i can't decide if i want to do it in mach 1 style high back comfort weave or low back grande style cloth deluxe, i'm leaning heavily toward the grande cloth. from the outside it will look pretty much stock except for the scoops and decklid, interior will also look pretty much stock if i can pull the seats off right. engine compartment will also look stock, well for a 69 gt 350 anyway. it has a 351w with 86 finned aluminum "power by ford" valve covers and a shelby intake and air cleaner assembly. other than that when you pop the hood the engine looks stock as a rock but that's another carefully planned deception as well once i get it back from the body shop i'll post lots of pics and i'll post more when the interior goes back in, i have everything covered for the interior except the seats, for now it'll have to be the stock standard upholstery rear seat and the black 86 gt buckets. hope i gave you a decent mental picture of it

I think the coupes can look tougher than the FB/SR. The sportsroofs look sleeker and the coupe more utilitarian - it's so bad a$$ that it doesn't need to be sleek.

I was not as excited at first to have gotten the Coupe, considering the SR is so popular, but I'm convinced that the Coupe can be a tough looking car and even more special for it's uncommoness.(Is that a word?).

I Like the image I got from your description, Bnickel, and it is pretty close to what I had in mind, which is to say a fairly stock exterior, but the inside might be quite different.

I have not picked out the exact parts yet, but I was planning on a subtle hood scoop, similar side scoops and a spoiler, but I haven't found a spoiler I'm in love with yet. Planned on Dark Black Cherry at first, but am now leaning towards a Dark Gun Metal color. Lots of time to pick color so I'm not worried.

The interior would be pretty stock at first. Then I may replace the seats with something more modern and more comfortable, but only if I come across what I htink will look decent.

Also, considering the amount of work left to just get it on the road... I hope to be able to put disc brakes on the front when it gets put together again.

Well, body first and then put the parts back on. Still looking for more pics of coupes though...
