I have a 1992 5.0 GT, good condition, with only the air silencer removed and a catback exhaust installed.

IT'S SOON TO BE THE..... "INSANE FIVE-OH"

Anyway, I'm trying to convert it into the fastest possible car right now that WILL still pass inspection and be suitable for daily driving.

To start off with, I want to remove as much dead weight as possible. Can anyone here please give me a definitive list of common weight reduction mods?

Please also list the parts, and any side-effects from removing these parts.

I see what he wants, he wants to reduce weight but keep it a street car, and to that I say hell yeah. I'd rather have a nice car than to have a gutted car that is a little faster. There are plenty of full interior cars that drive on the street running 9's and deeper in the 1/4th.

Remember that it's not just weight, but where it's located.

First of all, the factory fog lamps hardly do squat for lighting but weigh alot in the worse place possible. There is a big heavy bar that supports them, that is all it does, remove all this and that's at least 30lbs. How about the spare tire, jack, and whatever else, that's a good 40lbs. There is also a lot of sound deadening material which hardly does it's job, not well enough to keep it. The A/C, P/S, and A/P (smog pump) in all weight quite a bit in the worse place again, and the condencer blocks air to the radiator. That's all I can think of not before mentioned, do a search.

Without spending very much money. Sound deadening, carpet. Any comforts you can live without like AC, radio, power steering, smog. Drill holes in the front plastic under bumper. That stuff that sticks to the floor is worth some weight. It is not too bad for handeling because it is low and distributed throughout the car. Let the sun cook it for a couple of hours then go at it. I did mine in winter and had to use a torch to get it out. No one item is a ton of weight. I used to have a list of what everything weighed. When I stripped my car, I weighed each piece. The rear seat is only like 25 lbs. But hey, it adds up.

Move the battery to the trunk. This is not weight savings, but will shift the weight balance in the right direction.

Personally I live in an area where I want a/c. Even though it is a 15 minute drive to work, there are days and nights when I would be soaked with sweat from no A/C so to me a/c is worth the weigth. ESP if it is working properly.

The most dead weight I can think of is defenetly to 200 pounds of ground effects. But you can always do it wice wocket style and gut all your interior including your door panels, I knew a guy who knew a guy who did that in a CRX and broke into the 17's..... I'm serious.
