Weird smell (not coolant)

I know i should be posting on crownvics.net but those guys cant seem to help me with my problem.
Alright so my sisters 91 grand marquis has the weirdest smell, out of no where it started smelling like paint thinner or almost rubbing alcohol...its the weirdest thing. It smells strong enough to give you a headache if you drive with the windows up, i told her to always drive with windows up with that kinna smell. Its nothing we dropped in the car....any help would be appreciated

Can you smell it under the hood as well? I've run into a chemical smell before and as best I could trace it, it came from the cooling fan. The HVAC can pick up the smell and dump it into the interior.

my dad had a 1990 marquis. It always had a coolant smell in the interior coming from the vents. Didnt smell like rubbing alcohol but it sure smelled. Must be a common problem.l

no, i cant smell it from underneath the hood...its the weirdest thing...im assuming it could be a health hazard? should i be worried about it? what did you end up doing with your problem or did it just go away after awhile?

no its not a coolant smell or a fuel smell, its really a chemical smell...

I bet the charcoal canister is clogged and he is smelling fuel, had the same thing happen. its funny-It doesnt smell like fuel, more like alcohol and fuel mixed-But very potent. check out the canister...

i bet it's more of a thinner varnish bad fuel smell right? my 92 4 cyl stang has a funky smell like old bad gas! it's mostly when the fuel is low tho it seems like. peace

I had a smell in my coupe once that almost smelled like Windex...or like a muskey wet kind of smell. It ended up being a melting/melted head light switch. Eventually the switch went out and i noticed it was melted and it smelled just like what i was smelling. I put a new switch in and the smell went away.

I get kind of a faint burning smell when I run the heater in my Mustang, never could figure it out, I think its just from lack of use.
