Weld Racing Wheels

Hi guys,

A buddy of mine has weld racing wheels (not sure the exact model) on his truck.

(This is slightly non-mustang just because what the wheels are installed on but I thought you guys might have some ideas on the subject.)

They make a clicking noise most notable at slow speeds and it seems to go away at higher speeds. The sound it is making sounds like there is either a rock in the center cap or a broken valve stem inside the tire.

We have checked the center caps and they were empty. Also more than one of the wheels does it making it seem like it wouldnt be possible for more than one wheel to have a broken valve stem in it.

He took his truck to the local tire shop and they didnt even look at it, they just told him "thats what weld racing wheels do". Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Does he have the correct shank styled lug nuts? There is a spacer in between the wheel halves that makes a clicking sound as they rotate when they aren't mounted. I've never heard them click while mounted though.

I have never had that problem with those wheels. I have had 3 sets and never a problem. check to make sure you have the right lugs.

I have Weld Draglights and like Larry (1320) said they have a steel spacer in between the inner wheel and outer wheel (about an inch) that has holes in it that the long shank lug nuts go through. When mine are secured, no sounds whatsoever, off the car they do clank.

My long shank lug nuts from my front wheels to the back wheels are two different sizes, (length of the shank that is). Maybe there is a piece of debris caught in one of the open holes of the spacer, some, if not all of them have multiple holes to fit two different bolt circles.
