I was thinking about getting the axle tubes welded on while I am getting my 4.10's installed. So...ready for a stupid question... What should I know about when getting the axle tubes welded? Am I able I find someone that can weld steel pipe and have him weld the tubes?

Thanks!

I called a few shops in my neck of the woods and they all gave quotes - this is a pretty common mod to our cars. I had my axle tubes and torque boxes (upper and lower) all done at the same time. It cost me $250 - well worth it IMO.

Depends on how you want it done.

Some guys just have the tubes mounted as is.

Some guys remove the axle and have it mounted in a jig with a rod inserted so the tubes will be welded perfectly in-line with each other.

I beleive the axle has a small toe-in angle of the rear wheels from the factory, the jig-welding method eliminates this.
